Between the two colors there is about 700-800 units "Open Box", that is a lot of returned Macbooks sitting untouched from 4+ years ago.

Maybe it's been as low as $330 for those garage sale "refurbished/used/heavily beat up" ebay listings, but if one reads the description, these are brand new (w/ damaged box) --- complete with full manufacturer's warranty and Applecare eligible.

Also, to the above poster, I didn't see any links to those places where it's "as low as" $330. That's ok, happens to all of us. The other week I sent an email saying "Please see attachment" and whoopsie, totally forgot the attachment!

Now, if you compared the relative value of an entry-level M1 Air to an entry-level M4 Air (which has gone on sale for ~$750-800 over the holiday season, msrp $1000)...I'd argue for the extra ~$400 (double the price), you're getting a machine with a far superior processor, marginally larger screen, and double the ram. Also, it's not going on 6 years old. (But I'm using a 16gb/1tb M1 Air right now, and it's held up splendidly under daily normal use.)

If you have a strict budget or want to get into the apple ecosystem on a budget, it'd be hard to beat this for a low-risk entry point. It's a delightful, well-made ultrabook that's extremely inexpensive.

Those ultra-cheap ones at $330 have typically been EDU models with 128gb ssd and 8gb ram -- and let's just say, it's a 5+ year USED machine and kids aren't gentle.

They claimed they were "refurbished". Maybe with a spit shine....more spit than shine, I'd reckon.

This one here is virtually brand new (damaged box) with full manufacturer warranty and Applecare eligible.

Can you please link a comparable machine (build quality, power draw, ecosystem support, etc) that sells for less?

These are excellent and more durable than the new design. I've bought these for my middle schoolers and high schoolers to use for school work. They abuse them but the machines keep on going

Used, end of life, useless OS. What a deal. Needs Windows to be a deal.
Is this a troll? Windows is hated by everyone right now, and has caused a massive spike in Linux adoption. The VAST majority of people remotely competent in software/computing prefer Linux or Linux based like MacOS, which tells me all I need to know about your level of competency.

Shudder calling MacOS linux, in some forums you would be tarred and feathered (sarcasm) MacOS has its heritage based on BSD which like linux is Unix based but vastly difference in a lot of ways. BSD evangelists think its far superior to linux and vice versa.

I keep thinking that at some point windows will port to linux and have there own distro, I jumped from windows during the XP days when vista came along and haven't looked back, the only time I use windows is when I am being paid to support it. Wink

I'm using an M1 and it's still pretty fast and reliable as an every day laptop. My advice: if you buy this, don't do all the updates or it starts to lag a little bit.
