Maybe it's been as low as $330 for those garage sale "refurbished/used/heavily beat up" ebay listings, but if one reads the description, these are brand new (w/ damaged box) --- complete with full manufacturer's warranty and Applecare eligible.

Also, to the above poster, I didn't see any links to those places where it's "as low as" $330. That's ok, happens to all of us. The other week I sent an email saying "Please see attachment" and whoopsie, totally forgot the attachment!

Now, if you compared the relative value of an entry-level M1 Air to an entry-level M4 Air (which has gone on sale for ~$750-800 over the holiday season, msrp $1000)...I'd argue for the extra ~$400 (double the price), you're getting a machine with a far superior processor, marginally larger screen, and double the ram. Also, it's not going on 6 years old. (But I'm using a 16gb/1tb M1 Air right now, and it's held up splendidly under daily normal use.)

If you have a strict budget or want to get into the apple ecosystem on the cheap, it'd be hard to beat this for a low-risk entry point. It's a delightful, well-made ultrabook that's extremely inexpensive.

Mine arrived and it's not looking 'Excellent'. It's showing a purchase date of January 10, 2025 so coverage is expired and under battery health it says 'Service Recommended'. It seems like it was turned on at some point - there's a sticker on the box that says it was inspected - and then the battery drained and sat discharged for 13 months or so.

Are these the "as low as" $330 ones you're referring to?

I'm using an M1 and it's still pretty fast and reliable as an every day laptop. My advice: if you buy this, don't do all the updates or it starts to lag a little bit.
This right here -- the latest OS is something like 26, I have mine at 15.7.3. One major version behind current...and it's perfectly fine where it's at. I've heard of a lot of complaints about 26, given the Windows Vista glass-style interface being incredibly inconsistent.

My2Cents: Think about your use case and if you really need one or not. If the 8GB RAM becomes insufficient very quickly in a year or two, then better off to get the newer models. Because you might find hard time to sell this one down the road to recoup some cost.

I have a M1 32GB 16" Macbook Pro that I purchased on Swappa 9 months ago for just over $600. It has been a great machine without lag and I leave it on energy savor for better battery life. I might be saying something different if I only had 8 GB of ram which would make me hesitant along with not knowing about how much battery life is on it.

Thoughts about RAM are usually from Windows users, because Windows is a memory pig.
If you're just using this for socials, online banking, etc it'll be perfectly fine. Heck, use it for Clawbot or a Plex server (you'll need a usb-to-ethernet adapter probably). My kids have been using this for high school/college for years and so far so good. They can't run Fusion360, but that's what lab PCs are for.

Slightly offtopic I picked up a MacBook Air M1 from Woot last year and wanted to share my experience. Honestly, for the current price point, this thing packs a massive punch.
-> Even with 8GB RAM, Apple's optimization makes this feel significantly more responsive and "snappy" than any Windows desktop or laptop I've owned. I haven't hit a bottleneck yet for daily use.
-> The screen is gorgeous. Watching 4K movies is a night-and-day difference compared to my 27-inch desktop monitor. The clarity and color are incredible for a budget-friendly laptop.
-> It's thin, quiet, and "cozy" for media consumption. The Touch ID (fingerprint scanner) is a game-changer for quick logins compared to typing passwords. The Trackpad takes a minute to get used to, but it's so much more intuitive and responsive than standard laptop trackpads.
If you can find these refurbished or on sale for $300–$400, I highly recommend trying one before dropping double that on the latest model. For movies, TV shows, and general productivity, the M1 is still a beast.

I used to think the same thing, but after dealing with broken hinges on multiple cheaper PCs, terrible battery life, I think I'm done with consumer grade Windows PCs. Enterprise level laptops are actually often more expensive than MacBooks, unless you go the refurbished route and they almost always have mediocre battery life. MacBooks have actually declined in price a lot and are a decent value nowadays. They aren't selling basic models for $1000+ nowadays. My next laptop is going to be a MacBook. I'm done with Windows laptops.

I literally still use this exact model and it works fine. People on here complain about the ram all the time and I have experienced literally no slowdowns. It's worlds faster than my work laptop which is thicker, has a beefier intel processor, and 16gb of ram.

And yes I open as many tabs as I like, do minor photo editing, all the normal internet/streaming stuff, document stuff, programming projects etc.
The people that criticize this thing don't realize how it feels to use it, because even to this day it feels amazing, yes even with 8gb of ram.

That's the thing which surprised me about the Macbook Air. It's their entry-level laptop. You can't get cheaper than it. And yet, it's a sublime experience. The keyboard is excellent -- zero flex. The display is a 16:10 2.5K IPS panel. The trackpad is best-in-industry. Even the speakers + mic are extremely decent and 100% usable....which is hard to find in even expensive laptops, let alone an entry-level.

The build quality is top notch, but you can nab new models for as low as $750. Which I feel is unheard of. Go to Dell. Dip into HP's sauce. $750 doesn't give you squat....you'll have a mushy, flexing keyboard. A 16:9 display @ 1920x1080. A trackpad that feels like you're pushing a telephone pole through mud. And tinny speakers + mic (you'll be 100% beholden to headphones).

Walmart deal pushed me over the edge, I am waiting for the M5 MBAs, so this will get me by til then and I can then probably flip it for close to what I paid.
