People are making jokes, but Gen Z are bringing back CDs the same way millennials brought back vinyl.

Reminds me of my Aiwa mini shelf system when I was in college back in the 90s.

there is a difference in the perception.

CD are sampled and digitalized data streams, so there isn't enough "charm" to those because there really is no difference from a digital PCM file, whereas vinyl are at least analog. and no one can demystify those.

the same reason Monster cable lost all their charm when video signal change from Composite/Component to HDMI.

I do too, but EVERY DVD player also plays CDs.. Anyone know the best/easiest way to RIP all my CDs? I don't need lossless, just great sounding audio files..

I agree with all that, but it's not stopping them from bringing CDs back. Also "physical media" is worth noting. Vinyl is cool, but not very practical as far as that goes.

I'm not an expert, but I think there may be a potential difference in different releases for CD's as far as quality/dynamic range in concerned, so you do have instances of people wanting the specific "pressings" of CD's for that (See more at https://dr.loudness-war.info/)

In addition, like you said, the idea of owning the physical item in the highest, lossless, quality possible is great. I still keep my CD's for that reason. I use an old iMac to rip all my CD's in lossless and an upgraded iPod to listen. It's fantastic! I still do Spotify, but it's great to have both as an option.

I picked one of these from marketplace last spring, it sounds better than I was expecting.
