I have both the Tungston and Big Agnes Copper Spur UL. The Tungston is an incredibly durable campground tent that can double as a backpacking tent as needed. We've taken it out probably 150+ times with minimal wear, including a couple dozen backpacking uses. But yeah, the Copper Spur UL is a better dedicated backpacking tent from a weight perspective, though it is not nearly as durable (and excludes a footprint from its weight estimate). For backpacking, the Tungston is still fairly lightweight for this price-point, compared to others in this (admittedly sale price) range.

Could that be your local club price? It's working for me with shipping. Change delivery method? Otherwise, maybe it varies by location?

Great tent. Buy the tungsten.. keep in mind when tent manufacturers say it's a three-person, it's really a true person

I was excited but then found the specs. Both of these tents are pretty heavy. Last year they had the big Agnes spur ultralight but it didn't get down low enough for me to justify it.

that was it - i changed location from my nearest sams to another and price went down. strangest thing - never seen that before (esp since this is for shipping).

anyway, got one of each. these have steadily gone down in price- will sams do price adjustment if it continues to go down?

FYI: Tungsten UL exists, almost same weight as Big Agnes UL

I've seen in other threads that they do, but not sure what the timeframe is.

Great info.

I am mostly a lazy car camper and enjoy my instant up cabin style Core tent. Got it when my son was in cub scouts since he wouldn't help as much (and he was smaller) and I was left to setup on my own.

Now he camps almost every month and has his own REI backpacking tent. Going on a 2 week backpacking trip this summer in New Mexico and is winter survival camping this weekend (build your own shelter, no tents). I love to hear the Tungsten is durable but if we got another at this point it would be to cut weight since when they go back packing it is two 13/14 year olds that split the tent weight.

This is awesome I have a 3p tungsten from years ago and it's held up really well, this is a good sized tent for backpacking as a couple, enough room for two people and gear. This is our go to even though we have lighter tents and I have even carried this on shorter ( <10 mile ) hikes solo even just because it is so durable.

Either get a good deal on the footprint ( I can't tell it if comes with this deal or not ), or just buy some tyvek and cut to size ( slightly smaller than the bottom of tent or it will pool water ).
