This Dell Tower Plus looks like a strong out of the box workstation and light gaming box, with the Core Ultra 7 265, 32GB of RAM, and RTX 5060 Ti making it appealing for photo editing, everyday pro work, and games like Overwatch or Valorant. The price also lands below rough parts estimates, and the case has room for extra SATA drives and an extra M.2 slot. The main drawbacks are Dell's proprietary motherboard, power supply, and case design, which make upgrades and repairs harder, plus the 8GB GPU and 460W PSU limit future headroom. A solid fit if the current configuration is enough.

I bought a refurbished one as a backup.
However, when I wanted to upgrade the cooling, I couldn't use an off-the-shelf upgrade, although Dell sold a better one as an upgrade, so I swapped that in.
Dell has done proprietary junk for years
460w doesn't sound like much.
I put a bigger PS than that in my XPS.
The 5060 uses 180w.
It doesn't sound like there is much room for upgrades.
They couldn't include a 5070?
Isn't that 40% more powerful, but just a little more expensive?

I would totally hit it!
I couldn't figure out what was wrong with my PC and didn't have the time to troubleshoot it in grad school, so I bought a Dell desktop from Costco.
It turns out that Inspirons are orders of magnitude worse than my trusty XPS.
I had all kinds of problems with it out of the box, needed to reinstall Windows once or twice, and I finally gave up and bought another PC.
The cursed thing woke up in the middle of the night and lit up our bedroom with I can only describe as disco inferno.
It woke up my wife and I and she suddenly had a migraine.
I finally found out there was a tiny button on top of the case to turn off the stupid childish lights.
I'm using my 9-year-old XPS right now and I like it so much, I bought a refurbished one as a backup.
If I needed to purchase a new PC, I would install win10 over it.
It comes with 2 years warranty.

It has locked up at least four times just trying to do data transfers
It can't stream Plex without stuttering, even though my scrawny work laptop can.
I was able to load Cyberpunk to just test and it defaulted to Ray Tracing Low and ran quiet as a mouse - probably because of the lack of fans. lol
Since I've been unable to transfer data from an external, even though I can transfer the same data on another PC, I'll be returning. Looking at the MSI at Costco for $1300 that's similarly spec'd without proprietary PSU.

Side note, I'm seeing open box Dells for $100 off at my local store - ymmv.

Edit: Nope, Dell hasn't changed their ways. Proprietary everything and no room for a longer graphics card.

if all someone needs is this build and only wishes to add additional SSD's or a HDD (which there is room for and cables for already), is this a decent deal?

i was hoping for something that would work well right out of the box (hence not wanting to DIY - i did that in my previous life and now just want something prebuilt).
i did look at the Costco one. you get double the SSD size which is nice, but it's $300 more. on the Costco one, can you add additional SSD's or HDD's inside like you can with the Dell? i think the Dell has 3 cables already inside for add more drives which is what i was aiming to do
thx

that's concerning. do you think it was just a fluke or a chronic problem with this?

The Costco unit also comes with a 90 day return window and a 2yr warranty.
