Had no idea LG dropped DTS passthrough for all of their 2025 models

Keep in mind if you aren't planning to mount a G-series LG OLED, you will have to either buy the official stand for it (which costs around $200) or buy a decent 3rd party stand.

I've owned a G3 and G5 now and I've bought the official stand for each one, so just reminding people there is that extra expense to think about.

It is if you are trying to send DTS from an onboard app to your receiver.

LG's 77 inch G4 OLED is being discussed as a premium picture upgrade with strong long term value when bought refurbished, especially with the included two year warranty. Prior refurb LG G models have held up well, and the warranty adds extra protection. The main extra cost is the stand if the TV is not wall mounted, since the official G series stand runs around $200. Audio compatibility also matters here, because LG dropped DTS passthrough on 2025 models and onboard streaming apps can be a bottleneck for DTS to a receiver. A solid option if the mounting and audio setup fit your system.

  • A refurbished LG OLED has reportedly continued working well for years after purchase.

  • A Best Buy price check reportedly shows the same TV at $1,641 new with free delivery and installation.

  • LG reportedly dropped DTS passthrough on all 2025 models, which can affect audio compatibility.

  • Sending DTS from an onboard app to a receiver can be limited by the lack of DTS passthrough.

  • Not mounting a G-series LG OLED can add cost because the official stand reportedly runs around $200.

Is it really relevant if you have an AVR? I'd think most people spending this money on a TV would have one or if they don't then they probably don't care about audio quality anyway.

Yet to see the 77" C5 at blowout prices, however keep in mind they are still being produced and big box retailer's prob got some inventory they still need to move. The C5 is a very popular TV, but I still say they might go down to $1550 or $1600 or close to it before to long. Order sheets are looming for the 2026 models and the 2026 77" C6 is going to be a bit special.

LG's customer service is God's enemy on earth. The worst service and dishonorable company on the planet. Be careful

you cant use streaming apps from your smart TV, or they will be bottlenecked because the signal will not have pass-trhough. to work around this, you could get an Nvidia Shield or similar that has DTS and 4K passthrough and plug it to your AVR

I have never bought a Samsung myself, but My reason is Dolby Vision, I have a bunch of 4k UHD disks and some are mastered in Dolby Vision, for the premium price they want, I just could never justify them never including it. But some sets have a very nice pic, (S95F) for 1.
In the most recent Value Electronics shootout the Samsung OLED actually beat the LG OLED
The LG G5 came in 4th

I read that Disney plus outputted it for some content such as IMAX Enhanced titles. Don't currently have it to test though.
