VIP Outlet via eBay has Restored Gateway 11.6" Touchscreen Laptop Celeron N4020 4GB RAM 64GB SSD Webcam Wifi Bluetooth Windows 11 Home Blue for $63.99 after Promo Code VIPEBAY2026SALE. Shipping is free. 154 available at time of posting.

OP Notes:

Pros: reasonably well accessorized for $64, with webcam, 720P touchscreen, MicroSD slot for memory expansion, onboard Wifi and Bluetooth, Intel UHD graphics capability, Windows 11.

Cons: Slow N4020 processor (Dual Core, Q1 2020, CPU Mark score 1,536), only 4GB RAM which will slow Windows 11. Likely not upgradeable to any degree. Just a bargain basement Windows 11 platform for the price of an Android tablet.

Very limited use cases for this one, as it's about as basic as a Windows 11 laptop gets. Some of you may need a Windows 11 machine to handle light home network traffic or other basic tasks like RTU or PLC programming, data logging, or word processing. The 6W processor is very efficient in 24/7 operation for power savings in server or monitoring applications. To be clear, I would not recommend this one for the average home user or video streaming. A bit of a niche product for those who can use it.

Used product that has been inspected, tested, and restored to the original manufacturer's operating specifications. This fully-functioning product is in "Fair/Good" condition with some blemishes and/or scratches.

They should pay "buyer" to take this e-waste off their hands. Seriously, this can only perform with a Linux install or older Windows (XP, 7).

True, even Linux is still a waste when you can buy that ASUS Chromebook from the other day for $90, used

I'd buy this if I were planning to build a cyberdeck or something weird like that. Battery, built-in power management, a touchpad, and a display (not that I'd want this display) for the cost of a Pi 5 with half the RAM. 3D print a new case around the mainboard and a low profile mechanical keyboard... awesome. It's garbage for any other use though. I pity whoever paid $199 for this.

I have an elderly neighbor setup with a similar unit as this, loading MX Linux 21.3 on RAM Persistence - runs solely on 4GB RAM - for a couple of years now. True he uses it just to browse the internet with only a couple of tabs open, but it's lightning fast and efficient use of older tech like this, instead of just turning it into ewaste.

I have an older Dell PC that's been relegated to music streaming in my shop + OBD2 troubleshooting on my vehicles using a USB-OBD2 interface and software. It definitely earns its keep. And another that's strictly for Quickbooks, an old Acer with J1900 CPU. Both are plenty adequate for what I use them for. With the Dell being net connected I'll have to retire it around October when Win10 support runs out. At that point I'll likely grab something like this for Win11 support going forward.

Honestly if it supported USB-C charging I'd be in for 4, load Linux, and turn it into a LAN setup for old games.

but as it is there's no advantage versus just getting dirt cheap 15 year old hardware except maybe that it's a 2-in-1

you can get a good condition MacBook Air 11" from 2011 for about $50 these days and the specs are really quite similar unless you care about Windows 11 support and various video codecs (the Air can run up to Windows 8)

How it is ewaste? It is a refurb that would prevent a new (equally as lackluster) computer from actually being waste. This is kinda the opposite of ewaste.

I see zero problem with this....if you have a use case for it. And I bet 99% of people buying this will be doing Linux or grand(ma/pa) only checking FB. Something this could handle fantastically.

Personally I could see using this as a
-travel PC when I go to sketchy countries (theft and / or due to overzealous security screenings)
-as a display for my networked cameras
-use it on the range for connecting to remote target cams

In all those cases I would likely switch to Linux though, repurposing the Windows 11 key to a VM on another machine. $63 ain't bad if the laptop is in decent condition.

All that being said, the lack of USB C charging is my dealbreaker.

"lack of USB C charging is my dealbreaker" That contradicts your argument.

How? Nothing in my argument depends on USB C, I just prefer USB C and would likely use this 50% for international travel so carrying yet another single use charger would not fit into my use case. Thus is *my* dealbreaker. That does not cOnTrAdIcT anything...I could still do all that other stuff with or without USB C. Or are you claiming grandpa no longer check Facebook without USB C? Or that Linux no longer works with a DC adapter? No? So what exactly was contradicted?

LOL.....ain't reading comprehension fun?

For $64 even this is a stretch. Half the speed of an aging Kindle Fire HD tablet. It benches similar to a mid-ranged Core 2 Duo laptop from around 2006. On the used market it's a hard pick, they're only listed in Fair/Good condition. You can find better for this price.

This: https://slickdeals.net/f/17669589-sgin-laptop-17-3-fhd-i3-50005u-4gb-ddr4-ram-128gb-ssd-20-fre...

(LONG EXPIRED)

This SGIN $20 laptop (via Walmart) popped up on Slickdeals in August of 2024. Works, but the 4GB ram is frustrating. Still haven't found a use for the thing.
