Do not buy this router at any cost. I bought this model in September last year to pair it with other Asus nodes, which I used for over 2 years. From day 1, it kept dropping connections between nodes and devices, so I thought it might be a firmware issue. I tried a couple of different firmwares, but the issue was resolved only partially and never fully. A couple of weeks after the initial install, my internet became so unstable that it randomly drops out at any time. I tried many suggestions from Reddit and other forums, and most people have the same issue I do. Finally, I decided to install Open Merlin firmware, and it worked for a few days before the same issues started again. Unfortunately, by this time, I was out of my return window, so I wasted $200. I ended up getting another Asus router, which is working with minimal issues.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Which ASUS router did you buy that ended up working well?

Honestly, I love Asuswrt- Merlin compared to stock firmware, and after trying 2 different stock firmware, I was having same issues, so I ended up installing Asuswrt- Merlin, and it was good for couple of weeks and then same issues started. I spent many hours to fix, but failed, so I think there may be hardware problem.

I don't expect Merlin to be any more stable than the stock firmware given that it's heavily based on the stock firmware and adds features much more than fixes. If there are problems in the stock firmware they can carry over the Merlin. Problems with routers are almost always firmware related or heat related.
