- Prevents electrical overload by automatically shutting off devices that use too much power.
Community Reviews
These TP-Link Tapo mini smart plugs are mainly valued for simple scheduling and power monitoring, especially for lamps, holiday decorations, and checking how much electricity devices use. The app can track runtime and estimate running cost after entering your kilowatt hour rate, and the plugs are rated for 15 amps. The main caveats are that this version is 2.4 gigahertz only and does not support Apple HomeKit or Matter, so compatibility depends on your setup. A practical pick if you want basic smart control and energy tracking.
Home energy trackers who want to measure device runtime and estimate electricity cost, because the plug can log run time and calculate cost in the app.
Holiday decorators who want timed control for lights and displays, because the plugs work well for Christmas and Halloween setups.
Smart-home users with standard 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi and no HomeKit requirement, because these plugs work fine on 2.4 GHz networks and have no Apple HomeKit support.
Power-strip users with modest loads, because the plug is rated for 15 amps and can be used on a strip when the total draw stays under that limit.
Matter-based smart homes that need cross-platform control, because this version is not Matter compatible.
High-draw power-strip setups, because the total load must stay under 15 amps or the switch can overheat.
Apple HomeKit households that want native support, because these plugs do not support HomeKit.
Homes with routers that hide or de-emphasize 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi, because these plugs only support 2.4 GHz.

These are all being sold down since they only have 2.4 ghz support. We've pretty much moved on to 5 and 6 ghz and many routers don't even expose the 2.4 ghz bands by default. For many with installed WiFi and 2.4-6ghz support these are still fine for several years.
