There are known security issues with TP-Link firmware calling home - I have merlin on Asus hdw as a better security choice- TP-Link is a Chinese company that manufactures network equipment and smart home products. The company was established in 1996 in Shenzhen.

Wouldn't any router work with Xfinity?

6ghz wifi band seem to run really fast compared to 5ghz. Not concerned it lacks this band?
6ghz is faster but range is more limited and walls will degrade the signal strength a lot more. At around 25 to 30 feet from the router and 1 wall in between I can no longer get a steady 6ghz wifi signal from my router using my phone but the 5ghz band still gives me around 200 mbps.

5ghz 2x2 80mhz can often already give you around 700-800 mbps within 10 feet of router if no walls or floors in between. What are you doing on a wifi device that you need over 1 gbps of bandwith?

Would this be a good option for a cheap AP to add wifi to a firewalla gold? I assume it can be set as AP Mode?

Does Merlin do mesh?
Wifi 7 has standard mesh. Basically all wifi7 router should work in a mesh, even from different brands.

Why old is not bad

The ASUS RT-BE55 (WiFi 7) and RT-AX86U Pro (WiFi 6) are high-performance routers targeting different generations of wireless technology [1, 2].
ASUS RT-BE55 (BE2500)
Technology: WiFi 7 (802.11be) [1].
Speed: Up to 2500 Mbps total bandwidth (600 Mbps on 2.4GHz + 1900 Mbps on 5GHz).
Best For: Users seeking future-proof technology, lower latency, and better handling of many devices simultaneously via WiFi 7 features like 160MHz channels and 4K QAM [1].
Networking: Typically includes 2.5 Gbps ports for multi-gigabit internet [1].
ASUS RT-AX86U Pro (AX5700)
Technology: WiFi 6 (802.11ax) [2].
Speed: Up to 5700 Mbps total bandwidth (861 Mbps on 2.4GHz + 4804 Mbps on 5GHz).
Best For: Users needing maximum, proven throughput for current devices, robust gaming features, and high-performance routing [2].
Networking: Features a 2.5 Gbps port and a 1 Gbps WAN/LAN combo, with a powerful quad-core processor [2].
Key Comparisons
Speed (Raw Bandwidth): The RT-AX86U Pro (WiFi 6) offers significantly higher total throughput on the 5GHz band (4804 Mbps) compared to the RT-BE55 (1900 Mbps) [1, 2].
Latency/Efficiency: The RT-BE55 (WiFi 7) is superior for reducing latency and handling dense environments, despite lower peak speeds in this specific configuration [1].
Processor: The RT-AX86U Pro is known for a powerful 2.0 GHz quad-core processor, making it excellent for heavy traffic management [2].
Future-Proofing: The RT-BE55 is the better choice for adopting WiFi 7, while the RT-AX86U Pro is a mature, highly reliable WiFi 6 standard [1, 2].
Summary Recommendation: Choose the RT-AX86U Pro for higher raw speeds and robust, proven performance today. Choose the RT-BE55 for updated WiFi 7 features and improved efficiency with newer devices.
There is no point mentioning that router when only third parties sell it anymore and for much more than this price.
