The TX RZ50 stands out as a strong value AVR for smaller to medium rooms, with Dirac Live onboard, guided setup menus, and enough power to drive demanding speakers cleanly. It is praised for clear, cohesive sound, easy calibration, and solid performance at concert levels, with some owners calling it hard to beat near this price. The main tradeoffs are that the extra two channels matter only if you need them, and reliability and retailer handling have raised concerns in a few firsthand reports. A good fit when you want Dirac and 9.2 channel flexibility without stepping up to RZ70 pricing.

  • Adorama returns can involve delays and deductions such as a 15% restocking fee for items treated as used.

  • Open-box shipments can arrive with physical damage such as broken antennas, dents, and missing protective packing.

  • HDMI behavior can be inconsistent, including trouble with 4K120 versus 4K30 on specific setups.

  • Reliability can be a concern, since an RZ50 can shut down after warranty with a 2L2R warning.

Code JHCE9834 also work with rz70. I tried and it saved down $700 more. So RZ70 around $1800. I already had pioneer vsx-lx805 so I pass this.

I don't want to keep posting about my experience I'm going through with Adorama, but I just had to return an rz30 because it was Not new antenna falling off and hdmi control issues sending into frenzy. I returned it as defective within the 5 day window. Never got any update on return for a week after I checked ups and they received it. I sent an email documenting problems and called and rest assured no return shipping should be deducted or 15% restocking fee. I finally received refund email and they deducted 15% over a hundred dollars stating item was in used condition. No crap they sent me a used item. I looked for bbb. Adorama store front in nyc is accredited bbb but parent company with whom we deal with online is not affiliated and has a rating of F because of unreasoned complaints. I called on this fee and they said they would send it to return processing litigation and i should receive the difference in 2-7 days but there is documentation of that phone call received. They also ship in manufacturing packaging and if you don't click the box for insurance if someone takes your item and you receive and empty box then it's on you. Even if you do have the insurance you have to deal with it all. I've lived and learned that Adorama sells so much refurb, good luck knowing what you're getting and they can delay like they did with me. Initially telling me to contact the manufacturer for the problem with my unit, if I did I would have fell outside the 5 day defective policy. Just be careful, many good experiences and many bad and they can delay and hide behind emails and call wait times once they know what your calling about. I actually got hung up on after 20 minute hold once I was directed to tier 2 support for my wrong refund. Just becareful great price but must question at what cost. Cost me over $100 and only next step is through my credit card company if it isn't made right.
Your story sounds like my story except I purchased it through Amazon and the cellar was Adorama. It was an open box reduced cost and when I received the box it was beat up. I opened it up there was zero styrofoam packed around it all they had with some crinkled up Brown paper that was useless both antennas was broke off I had one broke off knob and dents all over it. I will say Amazon gives you another layer of protection for this kind of stuff.

I am very pleased with this receiver so far. It is pushing my 2 GoldenEar Triton Reference towers, GoldenEar super center XL and 6 KEF 3005 Eggs to excellent clarity and cohesiveness. Very impressed with Dirac RC. Upgraded from a Denon AVR-X2800H. No comparison. Reliable is my only concern. Had a Onkyo TX-SR875 before the Denon and it was nothing but problems. 🤞

I took the retail price of the SR875, cut it in half, and adjusted for inflation from 2007 USD to 2026 USD. It came out to $1333 cutting the MSRP in half! What's my point? I don't know how comfortable I would feel replacing with an AVR that is only 64% of the cost of an "equivalent replacement".

Note: my calcs don't consider the stupid tariffs that are in play in the current AVRs!

Are you saying in real dollars, the latest models are too cheap to trust their quality?
One thing I don't understand is these Onkyo deals keep coming but never at other retailers, not even close. Why is that? It makes me think there's something we don't know about what they're selling.

Well...you always get what you pay for...
Based on folks who have experience with this vendor, it seems like selling used products for new and then charging return shipping will always be a reality as long as SD exists. Don't forget the SD cheerleaders who never saw a bad AVR and constantly in "selling mode" while pretending to give advice to your benefit.
GreyRecess is kinda going backwards in the AVR dept: the SR875 was 140W into 2ch and the RZ30 is 100W into 2ch. A good modern comp would be the RZ70 but especially w/tariffs, the pricing is still a bit tough to swallow.

Unfortunately you'll always have people crying the sky is falling or have an agenda.

This has been out since 2021 & there are vast many more people who bought this from Adorama that share your opinion than chicken little opinions in that timeframe.

Adorama is an authorized seller just like wherever you bought your RZ50.

Technically everyone has this on sale, if you feel like chicken little, just pay the extra sale price for that comfort.

Pointing to power as a modern equivalent in sound performance is misleading.
You're a perfect example(as is GreyRecess), this drives your setup just fine, why pay $1600 for the RZ70.

FYI the RZ30 would likely do the same & you wouldn't tell the difference.

From setting up both the only real advantage to this are the extra 2 channels of processing.
That's if you don't need those 2 channels of course.

Let me also add that my rec of the RZ70 (if you can afford it) is specifically because there is no power limiting on low impedance loads as pointed out in the Audioholics review. Why did Gene specifically call this out? If you're not familiar with what I'm talking about, do yourself a favor and read Audio Science Review's benchmark of the RZ50...

To add to my point, just like GreyRecess post.
He is very please with this with that GoldenEar setup.
Those Triton's are pretty low impedance.

There are plenty of owners over on AVS that feel the same way!
Both can't be right!
Hmmm
The question becomes, who's correct, measurements or actual owners/users!
