I was so happy when I threw my Dyson away. I recently bought a Kenmore Elite bagged vacuum. It picks up WAY more dirt than either of my previous dysons did, and the Dysons were "the strongest" of their models. Get over the thought of using vacuum bags and you will literally have a cleaner house.
The Dyson Ball Animal Origin is framed as a strong upright for carpet and pet hair, with the self adjusting cleaner head and ball steering making it easier to push and maneuver than older Dyson models. It is described as handling dogs, cats, and heavy shedding well, and still pulling up dirt and dust even after regular vacuuming. The main cautions are durability and maintenance, since the cleaner head can clog with hair, wear out bearings, and eventually need replacement. It comes across as a capable pet vacuum with some long term upkeep.
Households with shedding dogs and cats need strong hair pickup, because it handles long hair without getting overwhelmed and keeps pulling up dirt after regular cleaning.
People who want a lightweight, no-fuss machine for frequent whole-house cleaning, because the ball design still leaves most cleaning as up-and-down work and can be hard to justify.
Yes. It is reported to handle multiple pets, including long-hair dogs and cats, without missing a beat, and it keeps pulling up dirt and dust even with regular vacuuming. The self-adjusting cleaner head is a key reason it is considered worthwhile for carpet and pet hair.
It is described as cheaper than many premium options while offering more power and dust-canister capacity than stick vacuums. At the same time, some shoppers say $100 Kenmore or Bissell uprights can pick up more dirt, so the main advantage here is Dyson-style suction and pet-hair handling rather than best-in-class value.
The ball design makes it easier to steer than many uprights, and a clog can be cleared quickly with one clip and a trap door. The cleaner head may need frequent maintenance because pet hair can get into the bearings and damage the brush, which can make the head unusable over time.
Something's not adding up. I'm thinking you had a clog in your hose in the Dyson. They're not very well built, but the DO have the best suction in the industry. Other manufacturers are copying their design for a reason.
Sorry, not true. I had the non ball DC33 when it launched and a ball style Animal 2 when that came out also. Largest sizes I could get. Replaced hoses and filters in them and kept them clean and debris free. They just don't hold up. I could follow up with a second vacuum right after and find all the stuff it missed.
Just my 2 cents. I run a cat foster home, so I know when the place is dirty versus clean, and the difference is immense
THIS is the one to get. We had one but aftrr years of cleaning and filters, it just had too much dog odor. So we bought the Animal 3 ... found out too late it does not have self adjusting and even on manual is a turd to push.
THIS item does have the self adjusting which makes it worthwhile
I have this version. The main issue is the cleaner head, it catches hair, it gets into bearings, melts the plastic around it and the brush becomes unusable. First time happened after just few uses. To get to the bearings for maintenance/cleaning you need to unscrew 6 screws on the brush roller. Had to do this after every other cleaning. Its a known issue with this this type of cleaner heads, even with lots of cleaning my lasted under 2 years. The new cleaner head costs about $90-100. Not sure if the warranty covers the head, I think its just the motor, but they may give a discount or something if still under warranty. I bought mine refurbished with 6 month of warranty directly from Dyson for $140, looked new. They fixed the issue with Animal ball 3 it has a different cleaner head, main complaints about that model is that its heavy, cleaner head sometimes falling off and hose is stiff.

The self-adjusting cleaner head can make pet-hair cleaning more worthwhile than non-self-adjusting Animal models.
The vacuum can pick up significant dirt and dust even when regular vacuuming already happens.
The upright can handle multiple pets, including long-hair cats and a German shepherd mix, without missing a beat.
Clogs can be cleared with a simple clip removal and trap-door access design.
The cleaner head can catch hair, enter bearings, and melt plastic, which can make the brush roller unusable.
Maintenance can be frequent because accessing the bearings may require unscrewing six screws on the brush roller.
The cleaner head issue can appear quickly, with one unit lasting under two years before becoming unusable.
Replacement cleaner heads can cost about $90 to $100, and warranty coverage for the head may be unclear.
