Right because it runs Vega OS but this one runs Android OS. And you can still run third party apps although a couple of them were banned earlier this year or later last year which is why some people are confused.

But yes on the Android version of the fire Stick not the select version you can still side load apps. Kodi, smart tube, whatever's

Check out Stremio. Started using that (along with RD) a few years ago and never went back.
Which streaming device or app allows to watch free Winter Olympics 2026, by the way?

In for one. An extra one never hurts at this price.

Just buy a Vseebox and forget about fire sticks. Gives you every movie and show on demand, plus pretty much every live US channel including all premium sports channels
Absolutely do not do this.

When you realize how much money you'll save cutting the cord, well worth the cost

Holy hell….WHY?

This thread is full of misinformation, but this is the top WORST.

Do not do this.

Get any Android TV device (Onn devices are the sweet spot at around $50 or less) and dedicate about 20-30 minutes of your time to sideload a few key apps.

Don't invite garbage malware devices into your home network while paying an additional $200-$300 on top of that. Pure insanity!

Amazon is actively blocking 3rd party apps they deem to be enabling piracy. I got a rude awakening last night when attempting to watch the Super Bowl.
You can disable Amazon's app blacklist by using the exploit from XDA, so that you can install everything that you want. But it only works with the FireOS that updated before October 2025, if you buy the brand new one it will likely comes with the older FireOS which you can still using the exploit

I bought the Fire TV Stick 4K right before they added the 4 Ad buttons on the bottom, I got a 1st gen 4k Max new in box for when this fails, Is there any need for this beyond mappable buttons or slight WiFi performance maybe? I got Dual Band Router still though.

Mine:
8gb storage, Dual Band WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0 + LE, HDMI output, micro-USB for power only.

Woot's:
8GB Storage , Wi-Fi 6 dual-band: 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax , Bluetooth 5.2 + BLE, HDMI 2.1 output with ARC input support, micro USB

Kodi doesn't work on it anymore. All 3rd party apps have been blocked.
the only Firestick that does not support 3rd party apps is the 4K select. all other firesticks support app downloads.

Streaming devices are just streaming devices. They give the ability to stream things on it. I know, obvious, right?

Nothing gives you anything for free out of the box (for the most part). You need to install that stuff yourself if that's the route you want to go with one of these devices.

If your next question is how do you do that, it's not hard to find out how to do that kind of stuff if you just search around for a little bit.

Yes, I know this will get the hackles up on some--this PSA is not meant for those people. It's, instead, meant for those who are oblivious to how much personal data are stolen from consumers who use these devices.

Firestick is the absolute worst of all the streaming devices if privacy is a concern of yours. This device logs all of you button presses, all the content you watch (yes, all--even your smut), including screenshots, plus it pokes around your home network to see what else if can glean from your other devices, and sends all that juicy, personal data back to the mother ship to be monitized via targeted ads and the sale of your personal data to data brokers, who then sell if to anyone who wants it, for example, Lexus Nexus, who correlates that data with all of your other PII from many other sources, thus building a complete personal profile of you and all of your proclivities. Bezos is all about profiting off of you in whatever way he can.

In order, from worst to best in terms of violating your privacy:

1) Firestick (worst for violating your privacy)
2) Oon
3) Roku
4) NVidea Shield
5) Apple TV (best for protecting your privacy)

If you still want to get a cheap (there's a reason it's so cheap) Firestick, at least put in on an IoT VLAN and run pi-hole for your DNS.

Is this the one they advertise as being an xbox?
This has XBOX cloud gaming only if you have a Game Pass Ultimate account which now costs 29.99 a month through Xbox - Game pass Essentials will not do the trick. I hope that helps answer your question. SO yeah Xbox Gaming is not free on here. You would also need a blue tooth game controller to play, whether it is Xbox or a 3rd party brand controller.
