Great movie, great price! When are the rest of the 4K's coming down to this price point? It's like studios want to put 4K in a corner!

4K content and hardware cost more due to
higher production, storage, and streaming bandwidth requirements, alongside specialized, smaller hardware components. It is marketed as a premium, niche, or enthusiast product, which justifies higher price points for 4K discs, TVs, and streaming subscriptions.
Key reasons for higher costs include:
  • Production & Storage: Creating 4K content requires significantly more data, which increases costs for production, editing, and storage.
  • Technical Requirements: Streaming 4K necessitates higher bandwidth, and 4K hardware (like TVs or players) often uses more advanced, expensive, or complex components.
  • Premium Marketing: Streaming services often bundle 4K with other premium features, such as multiple concurrent streams or ad-free experiences, resulting in higher, tiered pricing.
  • Lower Demand/High Value: As a specialized, premium product, 4K media (like physical discs) is targeted at enthusiasts willing to pay more, with lower production volumes leading to higher unit prices.

I was joking (to a point)... and making a movie reference. I'm sure some movies may cost a bit more due to licensing and other issues. I'm happy to pay for a well transferred 4K title. I just find it funny that this is normally $14 on sale for $8. Yet most 4K (non-boutique) sit at $20-$40. I buy many when available on the 3 for $30/$33 deals. I'm spoiled by the SD effect knowing what a decent price point should be and what a "sale/discount" actually is.I know a lot of people that have shifted back to physical media, or at least shifted away from streaming services due to cost and availability of decent content!

We're sorry. The item Dirty Dancing - BLURAY [4K UHD] is no longer available from the seller you selected.
Looks like this is one dance we won't be having — Dirty Dancing has left the building.
