Pullman Maldives Maamutta comes across as a remote all inclusive best for serious snorkeling and diving, with strong food, attentive staff, and plenty to do on site. The house reef can be excellent, with reef sharks, turtles, rays, and dense fish life, and the resort also has bike rentals, karaoke rooms, an indoor golf simulator, and good restaurant variety including Indian and vegetarian options. The main catches are the long journey via Malé, extra transfer costs, and the fact that off villa snorkeling and some villa sides are less ideal. Reservations are needed for some restaurants, and the deal math is less dramatic once fees and taxes are added.

  • Snorkelers who want a resort with strong house-reef wildlife, because the reef can deliver sharks, turtles, rays, and dense fish right off the villa.

  • Travelers who want an all-inclusive beach escape with varied dining, because the resort offers broad food options, including Indian and vegetarian choices.

  • Guests who like an activity-filled island stay, because bike rentals, karaoke rooms, an indoor golf simulator, and tennis keep downtime from feeling empty.

  • Couples planning a special-occasion Maldives trip, because the setting and villa experience were described as memorable and honeymoon-worthy.

  • Travelers flying from the U.S. who want a short getaway, because the journey can require very long flights plus a boat transfer.

  • Guests who want easy, casual snorkeling from every villa, because off-villa snorkeling can be limited and the sunrise-side water can be rough.

  • Travelers expecting a quick, low-hassle arrival, because the resort is far from Malé and getting in and out takes time.

  • Shoppers who need flexible cancellation terms, because the booking becomes non-refundable inside 45 days and only credit is available earlier.

From the East Coast it's 36 hours of travel there. 114 hours recovering from the flight.
38 hours back again.
That's not a vacation and so we are going to motel 6 in Pigeon Forge and going to the aquarium to see fish. (Biscuits and red eye gravy are up there with bimibap and yakisoba)
You can be my travel guide anytime.😛

Can you give the resort name you went to?
https://www.sunsiyam.com/sun-siya...d_source=1

We loved it - the only thing that didn't go well was the Whale Shark tour - 8 hrs on a boat, never saw a whale shark. in the Phillipines they feed the sharks so they're easy to find, but in the Maldives they don't do that so you can get unlucky.

They comp'd us a family diving tour in response so it was not too bad.

Their house reef was world class.

The boat ride to the resort also was long - like an hour or more, I forget. my kid was not feeling good but the staff taught him to deal with the seasickness. Awesome staff.

I know this is sarcasm, but that travel time is really what keeps me from going to places like this. It looks absolutely beautiful, but you can fly to anywhere in the Caribbean in less than 5 hours from the east coast. If I was going someplace that far, it would need to be for a lot more than 5 nights.

The problem with the Maldives is that they are far from other places people want to visit. Hard to even make them a part of a multi-leg trip. They are 15+ hours from Sydney.
We absolutely loved the Maldives, but I agree with this - we flew from Taiwan, which is like 6 hrs to Singapore and a few hours to Male - I wouldn't want to go there from the US.

Also only go to Maldives if you're like us, and will be snorkeling or diving the whole time. Otherwise it's just a nice beach with nice food. If you're into snorkeling or diving, it's world class. We snorkeled the Great Barrier Reef, Indonesia (Komodo Island area) and Maldives.

I'd put it 1st, just slightly over Indonesia since we saw more big stuff (sharks etc) and there's some trash in Indonesia depending on the season.

Caribbean is not on the same level - the biodiversity of Indonesia is like 300x that of the Caribbean.

Where do you recommend staying?
I posted above about where we stayed, and it was great, but honestly I can't compare it to anywhere else in Maldives.

I bought from this site and stayed at the resort. Definitely legit site. 100% worth it for us. We stayed in a villa on the beach and it was our little paradise even with some rainy weather. Food was amazing including the vegetarian restaurant (and I'm a big carnivore). Snorkled a lot, many drinks and amazing experiences including playing tennis while huge bats flew around us. Yes long flights but we like traveling and made the most of it by going to lounges at airports while waiting and did a stop for the weekend in Dubai on the way back. (Good to experience Dubai but not my cup of tea).

I don't agree with everything you said, but the Red Eye Gravy in Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg is heaven!!
Had never heard of Red Eye Gravy so had to look it up, deglazing a cast-iron pan with black coffee after frying a salty country ham, now that sounds interesting! Put this on my to do list if I'm ever in that area of Tennessee.

We have considered the Maldives several times, and Luxury Escapes is very legit, but the distance from DFW and the cost, we would have to do 10 days at least, we just can't justify it.
If you want to snorkel, take any trip to Maui, rent a condo, rent a car, and just pull over and jump in about anywhere. Obviously there are some spots better than others but y'all are smart, you can figure it out.
Despite its ultra-liberalism, Hawaii, to us, is the best value, over the Caribbean or Mexico or other more distant destinations.

36hours if you pick a bad flight maybe. the minimum time to fly to asia from america is 24hrs. anything over 28 hours is a bad flight. but yea. i definitely wouldnt fly to asia to do an 8 day trip. that's crazy. it's literally two whole days just to fly there and back.

From the west you should look into Pacific locations that are similar. Maui snorkeling is ok but not world class like Maldives, Indonesia or Great Barrier Reef.

For those who missed it, this does not include flights to and from the Maldives, just transfers once there. Flights are around $2,400 for two people.
Wow, that isn't really clear, and makes the title of this deal seem downright misleading. Thanks for the info.
