46 years later, it's still a Star Wars knock-off.

Yes, this is a Star Wars knockoff. A lot of these are worth watching if you love old slightly crappy sci-fi - this one scratches that itch. It is no Star Wars, but it does capture the excitement and buzz around the early days of Sci-Fi films in the 70's and 80's. I think it's fun to see how different film makers, and even different cultures took the ideas in SW and tried to make them their own. Message from Space is a great example, because the Japanese looked at Star Wars (which had a lot of Kurosawa in its DNA already) and said, "We need one of those".
Be aware of what you're getting into with this niche film genre.

That said - if you enjoy Star Wars knockoffs, this is a good one. Don't expect Star Wars, but something rather different. In terms of quality, more along the lines of the the Ewok movies.

I remember watching this on HBO when we had early cable TV. This movie is BAD, and I mean BAD. Watching Robert Vaughn attempting to act in this schlock movie made me sad, especially comparing this with his performance in The Magnificent Seven.

I find it hard to believe that anyone would want to pay more than 1 cent to see this "movie" ... it was that bad. This "hot" deal is either a joke (too early for April Fools) or is an insult to anyone who values their money.

Watch it for free ... buy this and it will sit on the shelf, and you will regert it!

Very little pop culture in this movie. If you watch Star Wars: A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back you'll have seen most of the lines people talk about in Star Wars.

Probably the most significant achievement of this movie is that It helped launch the career of the it's special effects supervisor. A person by the name of James Cameron.

Quite verbose the wiki editor:
In keeping with Corman's longstanding cultivation of emergent talents, the screenplay was written by John Sayles (then transitioning from an aborted literary career under the producer's aegis), with an early score from James Horner and special effects designed by nascent filmmaker James Cameron.
This looks like a movie that's interesting to read about, not that much to watch.

If you enjoy Mozart and Bach knockoffs, this is a good one. Don't expected Beethoven, but something different. In terms of quality, more along the lines of an elementary school band covering "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida".
