I'm with you. I have absolutely no need for this and I'm tempted anyway. 🤷

Is 0.5mm preferred over 0.7mm? I have a hard time not snapping the 0.5mm lead.

These Orenz pencils help prevent fine leads from breaking because the metal sleeve slides freely and retracts into the pencil body as you write. Less clicking to advance the lead and no need to keep the pencil lead very exposed. If you're breaking a lot of leads, you can also try different leads. I've recently been enjoying Neox leads for my 0.5mm pencils, which I believe are a ceramic blend, very smooth, and a little stronger.
I prefer 0.7mm or 0.9mm for woodworking. I prefer 0.5mm for fine-ruled notebooks when I'm at my desk. I have pencils everywhere, which works for me because my whole family uses them, and I really enjoy a good mechanical pencil.
Other people have mentioned Graphgear. I have crushed a couple Orenz pencils in my work bag. Graphgear 1000 travel a little better with the all aluminum body, so I keep those in my tool kit and bike bag.
