DisplayLink :/
Can you elaborate? Is DisplayLink some sort of software that is gimmicky and therefore unreliable? One person in the Amazon reviews indicated that they had to keep updating DisplayLink software which seems to indicate this is not a true hardware docking station. That kind of makes sense as I thought Mac OS computers could only power one monitor per port vs. Windows that can do multiple and this device seems to claim 3 MacOS monitors from 1 port which seems to require some sort of trick. Anything you are able to share so people know if this is a good deal or should avoid?

You pretty much summed it up. DisplayLink is a software (driver) that acts as a virtual graphics card, utilizing software compression to deliver video signal to multiple monitors. That means it puts additional stress on your computer's processor - it's not supposed to be noticeable yet my experience with it has been not very pleasant - flickering, latency, frozen screens, and driver failures. Granted, I only used 2 DisplayLink docks but both behaved similarly so I've been avoiding using DL docks ever since. Those are cheaper but I value stability more than lower price in that situation.

Thanks for clarifying. That makes sense and definitely someone should consider when selecting a dock.
I will be avoiding this for sure. Don't need software pretending to be a display driver.

Yeah not for $100. I have a display link dock and I have had zero problems but I'd never pay thunderbolt sale prices for one.

I mean, I appreciate OP taking time to post this. I was really intrigued by the support of 3 monitor configuration.
