Bought one of these to use with my MacBook Air. I had bought a usb dock before this, but for whatever reason, the monitor would not recognize the hdmi connection when the MacBook lid was closed. This adapter works with my 38 inch Alienware monitor, works as a "mini" dock so I only need to plug one cable into the laptop for video and power.

The HDMI connector side of this plug is way too bulky, they should have ended it with a pigtail HDMI with flexibility. I can see why it is so cheap. I don't see how this would work for many monitors that are up close against the wall

This is a very good observation. Also the added stress on the HDMI port should be considered
I bought this a few weeks ago and thought I had selected the 6ft... was pretty pissed. Oddly doesn't pass through power correctly for any of the many android tablets I own that can charge at 30-70 watts, and do so fine when plugged in directly. Tried a dozen PD bricks, factory chargers for the tablets, whatever. $15 hdmi to usb c docks work fine though.. and this works fine on my macbooks :/
