Makes great coffee consistently and shows off the difference in good fresh-roasted beans, easy to dial in your brew for each new batch (I bounce between Lavazza as a baseline, a sporadic Atlas Coffee sub, and local fresh roasters), will alert you for self-cleaning cycles, and having the grinder/tamper/brew/steam all right there is incredibly convenient in a compact space. If you want a huge upgrade to your daily coffee that'll leave espresso from the mega chain stores in the dust, this is well worth it for a rock-solid and well engineered tool.
Home espresso drinkers who want grinder, tamping, brewing, and steaming in one compact machine, because it keeps the workflow together and makes dialing in fresh beans easy.
People who need a machine that works well with the stock portafilter, because the included portafilter may be the weak point and a bottomless one can be a game changer.
It has held up for years in heavy use, including office use three times a day or more, and it is described as a solid long-term machine. The compact all-in-one design also makes it convenient for everyday espresso and milk drinks.
A Black Friday price of $500 was mentioned, and other deals around $650 with store credit or used units for $50-$60 less were also noted. This makes the current price decent, but not the lowest seen.
Yes. Impress models include a side lever for assisted tamping, which helps make the puck prep more consistent and reduces mess compared with manual tamping.
It may take about a bag of coffee to get comfortable enough to pull a decent cup. After that, consistent results still depend on dialing in the grind and shot settings.
It can be dialed in fairly easily for different fresh-roasted beans, and it alerts you for self-cleaning cycles. The built-in grinder, tamper, brew, and steam setup also keeps everything in one compact footprint.
We've had this exact one in the office for three years. Used three times daily, sometimes more. Would purchase again. Bought this model to keep the grind debris to a minimum.

Got mine 2 years ago now. It is the best thing ever this is a great deal. My only complaint is the porta filter I personally got a bottomless porta filter and it was a game changer.
While I attest this is an excellent machine, Black Friday price was $500. Great product, not the slickest deal...but medium slick deal.
I don't see the "Impress" version for less than $650 during the holidays. I think you are confusing this model that tamps your coffee with the normal one that's been around a long time and does not tamp.
I would encourage anyone who wants to save some money to stop by TJ Maxx/marshalls. If it's in stock, they have the express and the pro for $500, and I believe the impress goes for $550. The only issue is it's a bit of a game of roulette but if you have stores nearby and you can stop in on your commute it may be worth your time. Personally I have the Pro, I love it. It's easy to use, heats up in seconds (great for my morning routine) and is extremely consistent.

Get ready for some serious frustration, it will take about a bag of coffee to practice until you'll get a decent cup of coffee, afterwards it's pure luck.

Breville's Barista Express Impress is a compact all in one espresso machine that stands out for consistent coffee, assisted tamping, and the convenience of having the grinder, tamper, brew, and steam functions together. It is described as easy to dial in for different fresh roasted beans, with self cleaning alerts and strong long term reliability in daily office use. The main caveats are the learning curve, since dialing in good shots can take a bag of coffee or more, and the current price is not the lowest seen, with past holiday and warehouse deals coming in cheaper. A solid fit if you want café style espresso at home without a separate grinder.
The machine can produce great coffee consistently with easy dialing for different fresh-roasted beans.
The grinder, tamper, brew, and steam functions are all available together in a compact footprint.
The assisted tamping side lever can help streamline the workflow for tamping espresso grounds.
Long-term office use can keep grind debris to a minimum while delivering results that justify repurchasing.
Getting a decent cup can require significant practice, with results described as pure luck afterward.
The deal price may be less compelling than prior holiday pricing when Black Friday was reported at $500.
The porta filter experience may require swapping to a bottomless porta filter to feel like a game changer.
Finding the Impress model at a lower price can involve a store-stock roulette hunt.
