Why does every mouthwash have to contain sucralose? It's a known allergen that prevents people with allergy to it from using just about any and all non-alcohol based mouth wash products. (this contains even more sugar substitutes than others - saccharine).

Assuming that wasn't a rhetorical question, here is AI's answer:Why not other sweeteners?• Saccharin and acesulfame K: very sweet but more likely to have bitter/metallic aftertastes, which is a bigger problem in a rinse that stays in the mouth for 30–60 seconds.[todaysrdh +1]• Aspartame: less stable in water and at higher temperatures or varying pH, so it's not ideal for long‑shelf‑life liquids like mouthwash.[sciencedirect]• Natural options (xylitol, stevia): xylitol is popular in some rinses and can have oral-health benefits, but it's less intensely sweet and more expensive; stevia extracts can carry herbal or bitter notes that some people dislike in a medicated-tasting rinse.[drfridh +2]In practice, manufacturers pick sucralose because it gives a sugar‑like sweetness, doesn't feed cavity-causing bacteria, remains stable in a complex liquid formula, and is widely approved and familiar to consumers and regulators.[webmd +3]

apple75 - it was rhetorical and it was not at the same time. Consider it a gripe and a true question that really would like to know why we need sweet flavor in mouthwash. We have become a society in which sweet is plastering over every real flavor. Fake instead of flavor, artificial garish colors instead of colors nature creates... I can go on. So yea, why do we need that much sweetness in mouthwash? I find the overpowering sweetness disgusting, not to mention allergic reactions following use of said hyper-sweet mouthwash.
