eink is perfect for outdoors - under direct summer sunlight, you can still read eink like an actual book. I know a contractor carries this around, because many of his work is done on job sites without shade / roof

I have Ipad Pro m1 and really like my Kindle scribe 1st gen because its scribing function is so easy and the feeling of writing notes and have it all in one device just for reading is so much easier. Besides the reading experience and battery life is much better. It's also not too fragile and light to carry around than Ipad. I feel like I can damage my Ipad when carry it around, ipad is perfect for entertainment purposes and some professional works which needs show color images, web browsers or even zoom but not for writing and reading on the long run. I read books on Ipad sometimes but it's getting tired quickly
The differences are negligible. Basically, the pen is better on the newer model, and the screen texture is slightly different.
For the record, you can get a used first-gen model for a lot cheaper than this.
