Just a wild guess, but most sizes are probably sold out, and they only have XS or S left. Same goes for the REI sales.

I'm a fan of patagonia stuff. Can be pricey but usually lasts many years ocmpared to other stuff that doesn't last as long

It's all based on intended use. There's no point in buying Patagonia stuff if you're walking from the car to the office through the parking garage every day. But any type of actual outdoor enthusiast stuff in cold weather like hiking, snowshoeing, skiing, etc, it's definitely worth the money, for longlivity and also insulation/breathability over something cheap. I could even justify the cost for daily use in cold weather like walking a dog.
