For me, it's a little bit of everything. I don't upgrade my iPad that often, currently at 9 years since the last upgrade, but when I do, I want the most capable. I also refuse to pay the price that Apple wants, so am always watching for a deal. For my use, the Air M3 would be more than enough, but the reason I'm not buying that one is the lack of an OLED screen.

OLED definitely isn't worth $400 more. If I recall, lowest I've seen new iPad air sell for was $400-450 range.

Stay strong & don't pay the price Apple wants. If people do pay the Apple price, it will continue rising every generation.

I would never $999 for an M5 iPad, and the $599 M3 Air was never an option for me since an LCD iPad wasn't something I want. It sucks that Apple gates that feature, but that's just out of my hands. The M4 Pro was also an option, but I couldn't get in on the deals when they were happening during the holidays for $699. $799 for an M5 isn't bad. Given the $100 price difference between the deals on the M4 and M5 iPads, I'd rather have the 1 generation newer M5 anyway. The difference won't make any difference in the here and now, but it might later on since I keep iPads well after Apple ends support for them.

Thanks for sharing. So people do those things on ipads. I either do video editing on my phone, or if its serious on laptop/desktop. Gaming for laptop desktop too.
iPad i mostly just use for YouTube/netflix/note taking and other light activities

Yeh that's the way to do it imho. I wanted a big oled tablet too, bought Samsung tab s8 ultra on a deal this black friday for 350, it's really beautiful, i imagine the oled ipad pros look similar too. Still I hope we see more innovation, a lot of techs haven't chnaged much in terms of design and functions. Those foldable tablets/laptops seem kinda cool if reliable, but still way too expensive.

It would be pretty nice to have a phone fold out to the screen size of an iPad Mini, or an iPad Mini sized tablet fold out to be the size of a 13-inch iPad, to get the best of both screen size and travel-friendly device footprint. Foldable seem nice as far as the concept, but the price will keep me away for years to come.
