Any recommendations on software (garage band?) or youtube learning channels etc?

You didn't mention platform, but since you're on Mac: yes garage band, on iPad also check out Korg's offerings as well as Koala Sampler.

Ableton Live is invaluable software to learn if doing anything audio related imo. Or logic, but also imo it is inferior. Personally i jump between FL Studio and Ableton. ProTools is good if just recording and mixing. So many good youtube channels nowadays. Au5 has fantastic sound design tutorials.

Besides GarageBand, Akai will include lite versions of good software, especially Ableton live. As this keyboard is mostly to control that software, I'd just use that. If they outgrow it, it's an easy upgrade to one of the most popular music production software platforms around.

Noob here. This or MPK MK3 ? Does Akai Professional MPK Mini MK3 25 Key USB MIDI Keyboard work without a computer or tablet when you need to output to speakers? Don't fully understand other differences, but both ar ein same price range.
