I asked Grok to determine the differences between this V8 and the XE from the prior deal. The V8 is better in many respects, especially it's ability to work with heavier phones, which could help some people that had problems with the Samsung S24 and the XE. The V8 also has a trigger button on the back which is similar to the Insta360 Flow 2 that I use. I'm buying this for a friend who didn't want to spend $100 on a gimbal like I did.

The Smart V8 appears to be a more recent or premium model with enhanced features like a built-in extension rod and higher payload, while the Smart XE is positioned as a value-oriented, lightweight option with strong battery life and magnetic accessories.

Here's a side-by-side comparison of their key features based on official specs and product details:
  • Stabilization: Both use 3-axis brushless motors for smooth anti-shake performance.
    • Smart V8: Upgraded algorithm with high-precision motors and dual-arc clamp for even heavier phones.
    • Smart XE: SMART 7.0 anti-shake algorithm; reliable for most scenarios.
  • Payload Capacity (max phone weight supported):
    • Smart V8: Up to 330g (better for larger/heavier phones, e.g., big-screen models or with cases).
    • Smart XE: Up to 250g (handles iPhone 14 Pro Max and similar, but less margin for heavier setups).
  • Weight:
    • Smart V8: 366g.
    • Smart XE: 350g (slightly lighter and more compact for travel).
  • Battery Life:
    • Smart V8: 8–10 hours shooting (after ~2-hour charge).
    • Smart XE: Up to 10 hours (2600mAh battery, ~3-hour charge) — comparable, with Smart XE often highlighted for all-day use.
  • Display:
    • Smart V8: 0.96" high-resolution HD/OLED display for real-time status, settings, and controls.
    • Smart XE: No built-in display (relies on app or indicators).
  • Extension/Selfie Features:
    • Smart V8: Built-in 20cm (7.8–7.87") extension rod (aluminum alloy) for high/low angles, group shots, bird's-eye views, and 280°/auto-spin shots.
    • Smart XE: No built-in extension rod (but has a 1/4" bottom port for adding tripods/selfie sticks); includes magnetic phone clamp and optional RGB magnetic fill light for better selfies/low-light.
  • AI Tracking & Gestures:
    • Both: Advanced AI tracking (face, body, object/pet, live stream modes) with gesture controls (e.g., OK gesture to start/stop).
    • Smart V8: Four smart tracking modes + five gesture types; supports whole-body, pets, and advanced auto features.
    • Smart XE: Four smart tracking modes + gesture control; strong focus on no-subscription live stream tracking.
  • Shooting Modes:
    • Smart V8: Six creative modes (e.g., F/PF/Lock for panning/locking, POV for freestyle, DM for dream rotation/auto-spin, S for sports/action, plus auto-capture, panoramic, and Inception-like effects).
    • Smart XE: Four core modes + Inception Mode (rotation effects) and Dynamic Zoom (dolly zoom).
  • Controls:
    • Both: Focus wheel/roller and zoom controls (via wheel/slider); app integration for advanced features.
    • Smart V8: Upgraded control wheel, trigger button (re-center, modes), multi-function remote control included for remote operation/solo shooting.
    • Smart XE: Focus roller + zoom toggle; buttons and indicators; one-click horizontal/vertical switch.
  • Other Notable Features:
    • Smart V8: 280° auto spin shot, remote control for hands-free, compact fold to phone size, practical for dynamic/creative shots.
    • Smart XE: Magnetic clamp (reversible 180°), optional fill light, quick setup (no balancing needed), budget-friendly with premium feel.
  • Best For:
    • Choose Smart V8 Black if you want a built-in extension rod for versatile angles (selfies, overheads), higher payload for bigger phones, a display for quick checks, more shooting modes, and advanced remote/gesture options. It's geared toward creators needing more cinematic flexibility and pro-like control.
    • Choose Smart XE if you prioritize lighter weight, longer emphasized battery runtime, magnetic accessories (like fill light), effortless quick setup, and great value for everyday vlogging/live-streaming without extras like a rod.
Both are compatible with the AOCHUAN app for templates, filters, and more. The Smart V8 generally offers more premium/build features (extension rod, display, higher payload), while the Smart XE excels in portability and affordability. For the latest pricing or variants, check the official AOCHUAN site or retailers like Amazon.

TL;DR version from a gimbal noob: this is the newer, better version for a few dollars less, compared to the deal a few days ago.

I would listen to a crying baby before I kneel & sell myself to Elon and GROK.
With that being said, I used Co-Pilot and they said this is better for selfies and bigger, sometimess glitches, and sometimes suffers with payload. You have to make sure you get a good one.

Looks like the reviews are heavily manipulated. Some recent ones in the 1-2 star range have a lot of complaints.
