If you're looking to maximize your carry on space, this set ain't the one. I bought the small bag a year ago and ended up returning it as it was substantially less space than my other bags. If you look at the reviews on Amazon, many other people confirm this.

What is a better recommendation? I'm looking for a new set. TIA

TBH, I'm still searching for the perfect set. Seems like there is no consistency with dimensions among the 3 piece sets. If you want to maximize carry on, I've had this for about a year and it's solid. It is made of ABS but it's suitable for a carry on: https://a.co/d/0eeOP1xm

I have it and can confirm. The small one is so small that I haven't even used it yet. Stays in the closet.

How are the other two bags? At $150, it's still a good deal even if only the medium and large get used.

This set is great, I have it in black for 3 years now and it's survived many trips..The carry on is comically small but it's never been an issue for my travels, a perk it does have is a usb port on outside that has a cable to inside where you can plug it into a battery pack in a small holder.... so walking thru airport and charger via carry on has been super nice

I have a trip this weekend or I would buy this for a second set for wife

Wouldn't the 28" incur oversized luggage charges on some airlines (i.e. Southwest) because it's 63" total length?

I noticed that as well, and technically yes, it is oversized. I searched Amazon reviews and found no reports of anyone actually being charged extra because of it. But it's always possible. It seems like just about all 28" expandable bags are technically oversized when you have the expansion portion unzipped.

Isn't this 22" and over the carryon limit?

Hasn't been a problem on Delta, JetBlue, or Southwest. On American, the flight attendant did make me zip the expandable portion before boarding, but thus far that was the only issue encountered.

I have the originally omni set from samsonite for about 5 years. it's held up well with 4 international flights and about 10 domestic flights per year. handles, wheels and everything else is intact with no issues. they are light weight and pack a lot inside.
i lent out the 24" size and it came back with like a 3 inch dent on one of the corners. no cracks but its dented for sure. i travel a fair amount and so we have no idea how it happened but i am guessing it dropped fully packed from a decent height directly on that corner. of course, the friend i lent it to "has no idea". oh well, i still recommend the omni series.
of note, i never had an issue getting on a plane with the 20" carry on for delta, american or jetblue. and the larger ones checkin no problem as well.

Glad I didn't order the $200 ones from Samsonite , had almost pulled the trigger yesterday night. I have had Omni , Omni 2 and Winfield3 , so far Omni 2 is my favorite for international trips.

Swim? Swammi? Slippy? Slappy? Swenson? Swanson?

Samsonite! I was way off! I knew it started with an S, though.

Also 24 is too small and 30 is too big, both fir checked luggage. 28 would be best. With 30, you are likely to overstuffed and get into weight issues. Space is not the problem, weight is.
