Looks like its been this price for months. Anyone know how hot it actually gets on the highest setting. I need something that can get to 120°

edit: nevermind I see now, says it gets up to 280°

What a great way to burn yourself in bed and set your sheets on fire.

Wondering if there could be other uses for this at the lowest setting, such as in a chicken coop or on the porch for an outside cat in the winter time.

Pretty sure the intended purpose for this is to keep your food warm on the table such as when you're hosting an event like Thanksgiving in the house. I want to get something like this for the wife, but seems like the whole thing gets hot and can be dangerous if there are kids around.

I would suggest going with the Chefman from Costco. It's 19.97 and you get the Costco return policy.

Bought this. Tried twice then returned. The temperature setting is the worst part. It's a turning nob which no temperature mark. You never know what temperature it was set to. The light for the temperature setting turns off when it reaches to certain point. Then there no light reminds you it was still on. So it could easily be forgotten to turn it off. It's a Hidden hazard on your table.

The 2nd thing I do not like is, it over 1.5 inch thick which makes it blocking those dishes further away from it.

Then I bought a glass top warm plate with digital temperature setting. We like it very much even though it cost twice as much. Also planning to rise bread dough with it.

The lowest setting is too hot for that application Smilie You're better off getting a heating pad (or horse heating pad depending how many).

It's not going to cause 2nd degree burns to the touch - but if you keep your hand on it... These are simply the same base as any food buffet heater with hotel pans on it. I have 2 buffet servers and when you remove the pans you're left with this base so you might as well spend $50 and get a full buffet server. Now you can have a buffet if you need it or simply take the pans off to set stuff on them.
Here is an example of what this really is:

We have four of these, but they have shown up on Woot for $9. We stopped using Sterno and switched to these water pans instead. The only warning I would give you is that the cord is short.

We had really good luck with these roll up mats for our super bowl party. I didn't like the idea of going through sterno cans. These work great and fit two disposable baking pans on them.
