There is definitely a price penalty that's added in because of all the extra design considerations, but, they're not just churning out the cheapest shape to make with the cheapest materials possible, they're actually doing some research and product testing, even on something as simple as this. Add in that their products are actually well made and the price makes sense (NOTE: It making sense doesn't necessarily mean that the product is worth that price to most people, but, I'm sure if you have grip issues or whatnot, they're very much worth the costs).
Regarding its actual use this is the best for actually clearing the water off the glass of any that I've tried. I did find some of the swivel type in Target and bought them as backup.
