I usually just use a piece of toilet paper and grab the hair off it and throw it away; no need to actually touch the gross stuff.

One should wear disposible gloves to clean the hair and other stuff off these things. Unless you clean this once a week.

We had this for a while, calling it "Stainless Steel" is sort of a misnomer since the only part of it that is metal is the cap on top, and it really doesn't serve any purpose other than to display the OXO logo.
Replaced it with the all-metal Tub Shroom and never looked back.

What's the advantage of all metal, the ones from Dollar Tree tend to eventually rust? Wouldn't silicone be better or more risk for mold?

Yes, I use these. Seem just as good, but they do eventually rust. Cheap to replace.
