Quote from Santa_Claus :

what do you use it for mostly?
blending san marzano tomatoes to make pizza sauce. rough chop veggies for pizza toppings and omelets. I really like it for mincing garlic, i find that to be a major pita and garlic tools are a pita to clean. blending smoothies / protein shakes. its powerful enough for most blender jobs, i have a vitamix knockoff (og oster versa) and rarely pull that out unless I really care about how fine the blend is and/or texture.

next up would be soups and maybe meringue.

FWIW, the Braun MultiQuick 7 has a stainless head, infinite speed variability, an oscillating cutting blade for faster results and is a top pick by both America's Test Kitchen and Wirecutter. For the ~ same price.

I have this immersion blender and it is SIGNIFICANTLY more powerful than any other model I've used. It works great. Like the other poster said, at maximum speed, there's actually fairly strong suction that pulls the blender to the bottom of the pot. You need to make sure that the liquid is deep enough to more than fully submerge the blender head; otherwise, liquids may fly. I use it to blend soups (like tomato soup) and it comes out very smooth, not really distinguishable from the results using a commercial grade (not the model sold at places like Costco) Vitamix stand mixer.

I have one of these, but it's the three piece set that comes with a little case. So I have the immersion blender, the whisk, and the motor body in a case. So far I've been really impressed with just about every task, but the first time I used it in a pot making a sweet potato soup was when I realized it was a real nice piece of kit. I don't think I would've been able to get as smooth of a result if I had poured in my blender.

This looks nice and seems like a good price. I wish I had gotten this instead of the Kitchen Aid that didn't come with the whisk. I'm on the "notify me" list for Kitchen Aid for when they have inventory for the whisk for the model I own. I also like that the guard on this one is built-in instead of removable.

Where tf did you get 'hates it' from??

Here's exactly what they said about the braun7: "This is a newer version of an immersion blender we already tested for this review, but it has some notable new features and performed well, doing an especially good job at purรฉeing celery soup. It can go from low to high power depending on how hard you hold down its power button. And when you press the blender into something, like the bottom of a pot or a pile of ice, the base moves up and down, which keeps solids from getting trapped underneath the blade. However, it was less powerful than the All-Clad corded model and took longer to get the job done."

That noted, I'd bet that the All-Clad is likely the best bet, they make top notch products.
