The Pixel Watch 3 stands out as a polished Android smartwatch with strong phone integration, Google Wallet tap to pay, app support, calls and replies, and useful extras like Audible, music, and Gemini AI. The 45 millimeter model also gets praise for accurate heart rate tracking and battery life that can reach close to two days, though some compare it unfavorably with cheaper watches that last much longer. The main cautions are the Wi Fi only configuration, reported short update support, and concerns about battery aging over time. At this price, it looks like a capable pick if you want Pixel features over bargain battery life.

It appears that these only get 3 years of OS updates and security patches. Missing out of newer features from OS updates isn't a major issue. The apps themselves can still get updated.

The lack of security patches is concerning. Especially since the watch does seem to get integrated pretty well with your device and/or personal information. There is probably a very low risk of your watch being compromised. But it's still a frustrating thing to keep in the back of your mind.

So keep all of this in mind when buying an older Pixel Watch model. Yes, you are saving money for a device that could function for many years. But you want to avoid using something that may ignore security vulnerabilities, then paying half price for a device with half of it's lifespan removed isn't as tempting.

The batteries in these watches degrade fairly quickly, so even if you buy a Pixel Watch 3 today, it will probably be beyond its useful hardware life in October 2027. Still, it's disappointing that they couldn't offer 4 or 5 years.

Yeah these are still too expensive. Disposable product that is already past it's due date.

I have the watch 2, battery is ok, one day, charge at night. I am looking for a watch 4 though, those prices have not come down much.

How do these compare to the Amazfit devices like the Bip 5 ($50) or Bip 6 ($80), which seem much more of a disposable price than this?

These are about on-par with the Apple Watch in terms of features, hardware sensors and app store support. Having Google Wallet for example to tap to pay at stores and public transit is a big use case for me, which isn't available on the cheaper devices like Amazfit. Audible, music on the watch also handy. Gemini AI is now available on PW3.
These are a lot more capable and versatile than just health and fitness tracking.

I have this watch, 45mm version and recommend it.

Think about your use cases though. For me an accurate heart rate tracker is most important and the PW3 rates as one of the best. I use this for fitness mostly and and the battery lasts close to 2 days fo rme.

i honestly don't know who smart watches are for anymore.

some of the brightest, most successful people on the planet do not use smart watches. they have their dumb, fancy watches, and that's it. i used a fitbit to track my heart rate but in the end, i realized it doesn't matter. i just got a casio with a timer on it and it will probably outlive me.

I went from an Amazfit Bip S to a Pixel Watch 4 because I got a Google store credit with my Pixel 10 Pro (upgrading from a damaged, barely functioning Pixel 5) and a 10% off coupon. Honestly the Amazfit Bip S covered 90% of my important use cases, but it is nice having a watch that integrates really well with my phone. I use Google Wallet on my watch, notifications are more reliable, I can get work notifications on my watch, GPS starts tracking much faster than the Bip, there's an app store for the watch, I can take calls and reply to messages on my watch, and the build quality is way nicer and looks more polished. The main downside for me is that my Bip and Bip S had amazing battery life and was way cheaper. The Pixel Watch is something that I'm very much enjoying now, but if later on you asked me to pay full price to get a new one, it'd be a bit difficult of a sell.

Is the Walmart LTE version for $171 refurbished? The Walmart page doesn't specify But I would think it's refurbished as Amazon is selling the Pixel 3 LTE for $399 and they list it as new although they have a lot of refurbished LTE ones at the same price range of the Walmart $171 deal.

They could solve this by making the wear parts replaceable (mainly the battery), like any real watch has done forever..... But they won't, because the NPCs keep buying them every year.
