Baking soda/water paste does the same. Followed by petroleum jelly to prevent further corrosion. That said, im still buying two of these for sale of simplicity

Good stuff, good price. Use it with their battery terminal protectant if you can.

At $3 it's not really snake oil, but a q-tip with white vinegar has been doing this job reliably for decades...

I suspect most of my car batteries die early because I poorly maintenance the corrosion. Very cheap!

I know some kitchen shelf items are cheaper, but the fact that it turns red with detection of acid is worth it alone.

Best recommended case is using mechanical tools to remove corrosion and clean terminals via scrapter or wire brush and neutralizing electrolyte or acid using baking soda water mixture or a mixture of ammonia and water, then washing off with water. Then applying a dielectric sealer after terminals have been cleaned and tightened.

Battery corrosion is caused by sulfuric acid.

Vinegar is also an acid, you dont neutralize an acid with another acid, if left on, it will cause more corrosion. Vinegar can technically dissolve some buildup but no way advised by any manufacturer or heavy duty applications which cannot neutralize battery acid, you need a base, hence baking soda which stops the chemical reaction.

Vinegar can also enter the battery casing which can distort the chemical balance if it enters the battery and will also void your warranty. You dont neutralize an acid with an acid and it will cause corrosion on any metal/copper part and possibly accelerate corrosion.

Also never use compressed air to clean the battery as well cause it can cause static electricity and cause the battery to explode in some rare cases, especially in HD applications as in the CAT manual.

Also using a Q-tip is not recommended; it could actually spread some of the acid on the case creating a shunt between the terminals leading to parasitic draw on your battery. Sorry but that is terrible advice and people upvoting that as the top comment proves that majority of people on any subject is ill informed.

Just to add, ya'll can search for "dielectric grease" which is silicone based and non-conductive. There is also a protectant spray but grease is best imo.

And while some might assume you would apply this grease directly to the terminals, then tighten them on, its actually the otherway around like drow said. After cleaning and rinsing the terminals (and drying), assemble/tighten the terminals and then apply the grease on the outside.
This way the grease is protecting from the outside elements, and not getting in the way of the important metal-to-metal contact the terminals need.

Easiest thing to do is just use boiling water. Especially since you still have to rinse this cleaner. Ever since a coworker showed me many years ago, it's been a game changer in simplicity. Pour boiling water out of a coffee carafe or teapot. It all comes off and then just wipe down the terminals
