While it is very much YMMV, some Target locations may also have this on clearance for $29.99 — just saw a few copies locally for this price yesterday morning.

Definitely worth getting. Been waiting a while for it to go down in price.

I'll never understand why anybody wanted this game. XC in particular are the poster child of "games that could be great if devs weren't jerks".
XCX was a phenomenal graphical showcase on WiiU, but everything else reeked of either laziness or outright disdain for the fans. You couldnt change party members unless you physically tracked them down and spoke to them, and they do move around based on time. Once you accepted a mission you were trapped until it was completed. Combined with nonsensical level requirements this often led to many scenarios where you were trapped unless you spent hours grinding your way out. And navigation could be a massive pain, the game may point you in the right direction but theres never an indication the cave/path/etc you must take to access the point is a mile away on the map. Its like that vampire dlc in Skyrim but it happens way more often in XCX/XC2.

I remember this one earlyish desert story mission where I was supposed to kill alien soldiers. Simple enough except the battle attracted some level 60ish Kaiju who one shotted us all. The game reloaded the checkpoint to right before the same battle, and the same kaiju one shotted us all..... again, and again, and again. With no way to back out or exit the mission, I had to run away and sit there with the game on until it became night and he teleported away. Pure bullshit.
Don't get me started on the other crap either. A largely abysmal soundtrack (couldn't stand being in the main city without the mute button), non-existent collision detection on cars/trees/etc that reminded me of Big Rigs, and an incomplete story are all just the tips of the iceberg.

Tl;dr This might just be the most overhyped garbage game I ever touched, and its almost all due to the laziness and incompetence of the devs. Every XC game has shown a shocking disrespect for the players time, but XCX in particular was extremely egregious by making crap as simple as changing party layout a lengthy slog and preventing changing/canceling missions once you started one. And the rap inspired soundtrack is poison for the ears.

This seems like a very personal, hands-on review.

I am the worst with JRPGs, and could not even finish the original nor the remakes of FFVII.

What would you recommend then? Perhaps, the Dragon Quests series?

Maybe it is, I just dont get the massive praise XCX and XC2 get when they (seemingly intentionally) make their games so tedious to play. And its a real shame because theres a good game buried in there, but its not worth having to take 5 minutes each time you need blade field skills or having to spend 15 minutes each time you want to change your party in XCC while listening to the worst soundtrack ever put into a game?

And dont even get me started on these tedious side quests being mandatory in Torna.
And yes, Dragon Quest is great. I have played 1-4 and 8-11, all have been phenomenal experiences.

I too don't really like the music in XCX especially in the city. Fortunately with Wii U it is possible to apply a music mod to fix it. But that is not possible with the Switch version. XCX is also much weaker story-wise but the main selling points are exploration and Skell (only avialable late game).
To me XCX is bearable with the music mod but I much prefer the mainline episodes XC1-3. It's a strange choice to have a different composer for XCX only which led to the music style being dramatically different. XC2 has it's flaws and I agree with your critique but I like the characters so much I'm willing to overlook the flaws.

Just got this from my local Target for $17.99!

Had to use the in store price checker to verify, the phone app was still showing normal price.
