For anyone on the fence, Kelloggs CEO was the out of touch person who recommended it for dinner as a way to save money. Google keywords "cereal for dinner" smh

Miss some of their products but woof at the situation that led to that comment

Eating cereal for dinner seems perfectly rational to me

In February 2024, WK Kellogg Co CEO Gary Pilnick suggested that families struggling with high food inflation should consider eating cereal for dinner, calling it a "much more affordable" option. He stated that cereal with milk and fruit costs less than a dollar per serving, aiming to boost sales by marketing a breakfast staple as a budget-friendly evening meal. Context of the Comment: During a CNBC interview, Pilnick noted that with food prices rising, consumers are under pressure. He highlighted that "cereal for dinner" is already a growing trend, and that 25% of cereal consumption happens outside the breakfast window.Backlash and Controversy: The comment caused widespread outrage on social media and in the news, with many criticizing it as "tone-deaf" or akin to a modern "let them eat cake" scenario. Critics argued that cereal is not a nutritious dinner substitute and that prices have risen significantly, making it less of a "cheap" option than implied. The "Why": The remarks were part of a strategy to encourage consumers to "give chicken the night off" and choose Kellogg's products as an alternative to traditional, more expensive, dinners.Impact: The comments prompted a proposal for a boycott of Kellogg's products. Despite the backlash, Pilnick insisted the message was "landing really well" with consumers looking to save money.
