It was cool while it lasted. The kids loved it too. Died in not even a year. I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't turn back on.

Why do all these projectors have to have green dots though? Stars aren't green.

I've had another Chinese brand of this same generic projector for wayyyyy longer than I thought it would last. It's been running 24/7 for years and I've dropped it several times on hardwood floor and it still works perfectly. It's difficult to position it so it doesn't shine the laser in your eyes, be careful with kids...

Our eyes are most sensitive to green. Given the same power output, green lasers will appear brightest to human eyes when compared to other colors. That allows the stars to stand out against the nebulous background. Other common colors for consumer lasers like red and blue would just blend in.

You shouldn't stare directly at the projector but it's pretty safe. There's just one laser that is projected through a faceted lense (diffraction grating?), splitting the beam into multiple stars. You'd get a similar effect shining a laser into a diamond. Since a single laser is split into many beams, each resulting beam is pretty weak thus relatively safe.

Yep, it died about 30mins ago, right after I ordered. When my coworker ordered just 5 mins later, the coupon was invalid.
It might return though because the product page was screwy. Look at the screenshot. The Prime price was $2 more than the regular price! Maybe they're fixing the problem and the coupon will return when it's fixed.

The coupon expired about 30mins ago. I got it to work but my coworker missed it, about 5 mins later. You might check again later because there was a bug on the page (the Prime price was higher than the Regular price) and the coupon might return after they fix it.

If you don't want lasers, these are available for $8.49-$8.99. Unlike this one, they all have timers to turn the thing off

You're in luck because there are at least 3 better options:

1) This one is nearly identical but it's cheaper at $7.99 and it has a timer. And the astronaut has binoculars! In other words, you're getting more for less:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FWBY124J

2) This one is $9.99 and has a Bluetooth speaker as well as Nature sounds and a timer. The Bluetooth speaker is great for playing bedtime stories as your child sleeps. I have a friend who records the stories in her own voice. She controls the contents remotely in her room.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DHH2T45T

Read this interesting review by RowdyBird. He gives it 4 stars but calls certain features "unappealing," "annoying," "tasteless" (the stars), only "tolerable" and "obnoxious." He's not a fan of the stars or the Nature sounds. It's an amusing and informative review. It confirms the opinion that Vine reviews are more informative and not always positive.

And this reviewer who claims her son heard voices coming out of the protector even though it's not connected to Bluetooth. He's convinced that it's recording and spying on him. Otherwise, she thinks the images are very pretty.

3) This $12.99 one not only projects stars but it also connects the stars into constellations. Also shows different planets and it's also a Bluetooth speaker. Comes with a book on Greek mythology.
