Because corporations need to posture that they are good by giving discounts to people in some of the most well compensated fields

It's merely a way for brands to lower prices while adhering to retailer contracts. Amazon, best buy etc would not be happy if brands offer the same item cheaper. Hence we have education, military, etc ... Once upon a time it was a nod to those professions, but those days are long gone and now it's to circumvent pricing agreements
