Any comments from folks who have this SW? Is it any good? Comparable to a typical $250 SW, or better than most more expensive ones?

The 12" model has a tuning frequency of 32Hz and the 10" one of 39Hz; if they really do play flat down to 32Hz and 39Hz before rolling off, both would be solid for music and the 12" model would be passable (but not ideal) for HT---most music (pipe organs excepted) only extends to about 40Hz.

If you watch a lot of blockbuster action movies and want VISCERAL bass, you'd need something that plays flat down to 20Hz (the lowest human ears can go) preferably with an additional 5-10Hz of subsonic content for that "felt" bass. Then you're talking at minimum a $500 RSL 10S or, at least the $800 range of RSL 12S, Hsu VTF-2, Rythmik LV-12m, or SVS PB1000 Pro.

Closest competitor to the Dayton 12" is the BIC PL200ii at $300 which claims to have an F3 of 21Hz, but I've yet to see any independent measurements to verify that and BIC historically is one of the biggest spec-fibbers in the game.

Now if you're coming from a Bose "bass module" or one of those dinky little soundbar subs or never had a sub in your life, you'll likely be quite happy with these Daytons nonetheless.

Never owned but have experience with 10&12.
Many factors to consider but in general terms.
1st off,the 12 is worth the extra $40 ime.

Properly implemented in a small or smaller medium size or semi enclosed environment.
It's pretty adequate especially for the price.

I would add for reference, he replaced it with a RSL10e.
Was it better, yes.
Was it worth the extra cost, big toss up.

He wanted to return it but return window ended & told him unlikely anything better at 10e cost.
He didn't want to spend any more so decided to live with it.
Hope that helps.
