fark this deal. fark Nintendo and their bullshit pricing.

I grew up on Nintendo and love these games, but this shouldn't still be $40 ON SALE.

It was released 12 years ago on the WiiU! $20 would be FAR more appropriate for this and every other WiiU game that was brought over to Switch. I'm looking at you, Mario Kart 8, Mario 3D World, New Super Mario Bros U, Pikmin 3, and many others. Nintendo seems to have forgotten that they once had a Nintendo Selects line of products:

"Nintendo Selects is a budget-friendly, rebranded label for top-selling, older Nintendo games, typically sold at a reduced price point (historically around $20). The program, which succeeded Player's Choice, has been applied to Wii, 3DS, and Wii U titles, but has not officially appeared for the Switch as of early 2026."

You would think old switch one games from over 5 years ago would fall in price eventually

I'm waiting for Returns HD to be $30 again. Hopefully on Mario Day. I beat this years ago.

It's Nintendo, they hate dropping prices.

It's Nintendo, they know people will still buy their games at regular prices... 'evergreen games' blah blah blah

I paid $20 for the WiiU version many years ago.
IIRC it was $20 on the WiiU eshop until they announced the Switch version, after which it was a promptly delisted. Keep in mind this was still a long time before the wiiu eshop shut down altogether
Absolutely disguisting behavior..... its bad enough they resell ports for full price but actively removing options from the existing WiiU fanbase is a whole new level of scummy.
And make no mistake, they could easily offer discounts to WiiU owners who bought digitally or who registered the game code on Club Nintendo, but they crap on the fanbase while catering to the more casual crowd.

I agree with everything you said. I was a big WiiU fan and early adopter and bought most of the games on it that eventually came to Switch. It would have been very nice if Nintendo had not treated WiiU and its fans like they never existed and offer some program to "upgrade".
