This Legion Pro 5 pairs a 16 inch 1600p OLED 165Hz display with a Ryzen 7 8745HX, RTX 5060, 32GB RAM, and 1TB SSD, making it strongest as a premium screen gaming laptop with generous memory. The 32GB configuration stands out because upgrading laptop RAM is costly right now, and the OLED panel gets praise for brightness and image quality. The main knocks are the $1180 price, the 8GB VRAM limit, and the lack of USB4 on this CPU version. It is a solid fit if display quality and memory matter more than chasing the cheapest 5060.
Common Questions (6)
The 16-inch 1600p 165Hz OLED panel with 500 nits is a major selling point and is considered far better than typical sub-$1000 gaming laptop screens. It's also a point of disagreement versus MacBook displays, with some preferring the Legion's panel and others preferring the MacBook's.
It's a stronger value if you want the 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD configuration, especially with the 16-inch 1600p OLED 165Hz panel. The main knock is that similar RTX 5070 laptops have appeared near the same price, and this model has reportedly been cheaper before.
The RAM can be upgraded later, but the GPU is fixed, so some buyers prefer spending on the better graphics card first. In this deal, the included 32GB DDR5 matters because upgrading from 16GB to 32GB can be expensive right now.
The RTX 5060 is close to the mobile RTX 5070 in performance, but both are still 8GB VRAM cards, which can be limiting in newer games. That makes the GPU acceptable for many titles, but not ideal if you want extra VRAM headroom.
No USB4 is reported on this configuration with the Ryzen 7 8745HX, even though it does have USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 with Power Delivery and DisplayPort 1.4. That missing port is one reason the laptop may be priced lower.
One reported unit hard-crashed under gaming load when the CPU spiked past 100°C, even after BIOS, driver, power-profile, and fan-profile changes. Stability was only achieved by capping the CPU at 99% with boost disabled and running the fans at full speed.

How does this compare to an old xps 15 9520 laptop that has i7-12700h processor and 32gb ram and Intel xe graphics and Nvidia 3050?
How is the battery on this when not doing any gaming? Say web browse and YouTube? I recall it was said as long as you turn off the rtx 5060, then the battery would be normal? Since it is a Ryzen processor, what is the regular graphics card? For Intel, it's Intel xe graphics. For Ryzen, it's what?
*Edit*
Damn, even though it's a Legion 5 gen 10 because it has the 8745HX instead of the 260 it actually doesn't have USB4. My apologies. I guess that's one reason this is so cheap.

There are still plenty of XX60 laptops floating in that price range of under a grand. They are not, nor have they ever been Legion Pros though. I should know, I literally upgraded from a Legion 3070 pro 5 from 4 years ago recently. That one cost me about 1200 before cashback, and was a front page qualifying deal back then.
You can still buy 800~ dollar XX60s on sale, and they still have garbage screens, and garbage build quality (unless it's a Lenovo LOQ I guess, the HP Victus is also surprisingly sturdy feeling).
But you aren't getting a top tier display and build quality for a XX60 at 800 and you never have with any consistency.
Edit: also a $800 3060 would be a 975 3060 adjusting for baseline inflation today. So yeah this is a great deal.
The current price is $1,180, so of course it's not a good deal.
And this has been as low as $1049-$1099. Idk why this is being thumbed up.Sign up for a Slickdeals account to remove this ad.
