You're not wrong but the "appeal" and justification for the premium price is that they're metal (will scratch easily) and hold more weight (allegedly).

Has decent prices for metal pegboard and slot wallboards as they are the scratch and dent of wallcontrol branded stuff, ive bought several with only 1 or 2 panels looking like scratch and dent. And I did place a big order with them and they didnt ship a couple hooks even after emailing them. So ymmv for sure but if the goal is cheap and metal id still recommend trying this over Walmart or amazon.

We used these for product displays, and they looked great when new, but fast forward a couple years, and we had to replace them. They began to show wear, in the form of scrapes, scratches, and pealing in one case, and since our storage was not weather controlled, rust in worn areas from dampness / humidity. We replaced them with a fabricated slot system, but honestly, if I were looking for pegboard type material for my garage, or what have you, I would just buy good quality regular pegboard. The pegboard in my basement is 15+ years old, still looks like new, and is more then adequate. Metal pegboard is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist for the vast majority of folks.

Better off buying regular pegboard, you can easily paint it to whatever color you want. You'll know that all standard accessories work, it will last forever, easily cut to size/shape, and it holds plenty of weight.

Tiny and still expensive. Can't think of a use case for such a small space that you'd want 12"x12"metal.
I know you can jam all 4 together for 2'x2' or 1'x4' but mounting them all would have me wishing I'd just started with one solid piece.
