If the panels are 12x12, why not just put a 1x2 nailer to span the studs and you are good to go! You can screw the panels anywhere along the 1x2.

Ugly, less stable, lower weight capacity, and just why.

Why buy something with a known limitation, causing you to need to buy something else, and then do more work, just to work around that limitation? Particularly when the cost savings are low. I just don't understand your thinking.

I have a version of these that hits 16 inches, but I regret not getting IKEA Skadis style pegboard since the 3d printing world basically standardized on it.

is that really the best option out there? its fiber board, surely there must be a metal board that has the same holes?

You could elongate the holes yourself if you see a cheap enough peg board?

What are you hanging on a 12x12 that needs studs? Drywall anchors are fine if you are hanging onto drywall. You'll likely hit at least one stud.

I bolted two together along the edge so they would be perfectly aligned and then screwed to the wall.

These are good for organizing crafting tools, most non-power tools on a workbench, 3D printing stations, etc. I've got some to mount to a PC wire-rack and a muscle-rack type shelving unit. There is use case for both larger and smaller panels imo

Seems like they just want to be negative. You could have a 2x2 grid with these, have 2 screws in studs in each one and be fine for most applications, the exception *maybe* being heavy stuff, but probably still fine.

Nothing, because I'm not buying it. Why get metal pegboard if you aren't going to use it to hold heavy things?
