The Cedar Trail Grid Fleece is a lightweight North Face pullover that works well for casual wear and layering, with a breathable grid fleece feel, nice stretch, and a warmer than expected but not too thick build. The Mushroom Grey color reads more like a medium tan, and the full zip version is also discounted. The fabric details point to recycled polyester with elastane, though the fit looks roomy in the sleeves and there is concern about pilling and recycled material shedding. A versatile midlayer if you want comfort and easy layering.
people shopping for a casual work-from-home pullover because the grid fleece "works well" as a sweatshirt and stays not too thick while still having some stretch (and it runs a little warmer than expected).
buyers who want an easy-on, easy-off layer because one commenter prefers the full-zip over the quarter-zip "for easy on and off and in case I get too hot."
people specifically worried about pilling because someone asked directly, "Does the grid version pill?"-so if pilling is a dealbreaker for you, you may want to confirm before buying.
buyers expecting a "standalone" jacket/sweater rather than a layer because one commenter says glacier fleece is better as a standalone jacket or sweater, while grid fleece is mainly positioned as the layering option.
buyers who care about pocket/storage and long-term material quality because one commenter compared an older North Face full-zip (with two zippered hand pockets, drawstring waist, and giant interior pockets) to the current version and criticized it for lacking features and shedding recycled-plastic material.
The grid fleece is better for layering because it is more breathable, while the Glacier fleece is better as a standalone jacket or sweater. It can also work well as a casual work-from-home pullover if you do not need it mainly for layering.
It runs a little warmer than expected, but it is not too thick and has some stretch. That makes it comfortable for casual wear while still being light enough to layer.
The body is 216 g/m² with 95% recycled polyester and 5% elastane, and the flat-grid fleece binding is 92% polyester and 8% elastane. Those materials explain the fleece's stretch and lighter layering-friendly feel.
any opinions on the grid fleece vs the glacier fleece?
Going with Glacier Fleece because it has loops in the hand cuff and back of the neck, which is useful when layering with another NF jacket I have. It helps hold this fleece in its place.
North Face quality sure has gone downhill. I have a full zip fleece that may be 20 years old and it has better materials and design. It has two zippered hand pockets, a drawstring waist, and giant interior pockets. Not made from recycled plastic bags that shed.
The North Face website doesn't even have photos of the interior. I want to see product features not just a model.

From what I understand there are 2 different lines if The North Face. The stuff you find at department stores and outlet malls are from their fashion line. The stuff you find at REI and actual outfitters are their real high quality stuff. I have no idea about the website.
I'm surprised that Mushroom Grey isn't a top seller. Despite the not so appealing color name, this appears to be a nice medium tan shade...Desert Sand might have been a better name? Anyway...very tempting but I like full-zip instead of quarter zip for easy on and off and in case I get too hot.

You're overthinking it, quality definitely has gone downhill like crazy cuz everyone realized that 99% of the buyer don't use these gears in hardcore outdoor environments, they wear gore Tex/heavy fleece/down jackets to do Starbucks runs
I got the grid fleece and really like it. I wear it as more of a casual sweatshirt/work-from-home pullover, so if you don't need it for layering, I think it is great. I would say it is a little bit warmer than I thought it would be, but I like the fact that it is not too thick and has a nice stretch to it. And 68% off is not to shabby. Thanks, OP!
