Years ago such griddle would be around $10 on sale, maybe increased to 15 and then 20 after covid. Remember buying a Walmart brand for $20 as late as black friday of 2024. And Bella has evolved years after selling products for similar prices mostly during black Friday sales at JCP, Macy's, and then Best Buy and now Amazon. These are really expensive these days especially after covid hit the world.

This is the exact same griddle as the "Beautiful XL" sold at Walmart: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Beauti...5871624400

I have the Beautiful unit and like it overall, but the temperature control is finicky as all hell and given that the adapter looks identical, I would assume it will be finicky on the Bella, too. The temperature gauge is way off. Stuff will burn 225F (according to knob) if you're not careful and you can forget 250F as it'll turn food black with the quickness.

Maybe there was a run of bad control units for a while and they're better now, I don't know. I returned the first one for the bad controller and got replacement (this Bella wasn't available at the time) and it was the same. It's not such a big deal now that I'm used to it and would buy the griddle again without a second thought because I love the size and the nonstick coating has been great, but the temp controller is just wonky.

I have an old griddle from JCP that has odd zones for heat and like you said the temp gauge is not accurate at all. sounds like I should stay away from this one too.

There may be some weird exceptions from the past, but virtually all modern non-stick coatings are "safe" to use because they're inert. You can eat Teflon and it won't hurt you. It doesn't even bioaccumulate.

The issue with PFAS (PTFE, PFOS, PFOA) lies almost exclusively with their production and discharge of precursors into the environment. The second biggest issue is use during high-temp cooking (which you should never do). Third is disposal and subsequent leaching of compounds resulting from decomposition into the environment.

This is where science communication has fallen flat. Using a nonstick pan correctly isn't going to hurt you. That means you don't use it above medium heat and you only use nylon (OMG PLASTIC!) or wood/bamboo (OMG GLUE!) utensils to avoid scratching the finish. This pan is "safe". Every non-stick coating is "safe". You buying any non-stick pan in the first place is the problem because you support the environmental contamination that comes with the non-stick coating's lifecycle.

I'm not judging the purchase of non-stick cookware, though I personally use stainless, cast iron, and carbon steel and reserve the non-stick for specific use-cases. I just think it's important for people to be concerned about the correct thing, and it's the purchase itself that's the problem, not the use.
