Supports up to 2 x M.2 SSD (2242/2280)
*what I think most of the problem is. People either blame the laptop for their misuse or over compensate the specs not realizing they are just countering the overhead of their own, again, misuse.
Community Reviews
This IdeaPad Pro 5 stands out as a thin 16 inch OLED laptop with an RTX 5050, strong build quality, and a premium feel for the price. The 2.8K 120Hz screen gets repeated praise, and the GPU plus 8GB of VRAM makes it appealing for light gaming and moderate workloads. Storage is more flexible than expected, with two M.2 slots and support for 2242 and 2280 drives. The main drawback is the soldered 16GB LPDDR5X memory, which limits upgrades and may feel tight for heavier multitasking. Battery life is also modest, and a few reports describe freezing or overheating under light gaming.
Common Questions (5)
For basic office, school, and light gaming use, 16GB can be enough. Heavier multitasking, lots of Chrome tabs, large PDFs, development tools, or multiple accounts can push it near full, and the soldered RAM means you cannot expand it later.
Yes. It supports up to 2 M.2 SSDs, with 2242 and 2280 sizes supported. The shipped 500GB drive uses the shorter 2242 slot, and the longer full-size slot is open for an easy upgrade.
It can handle several games well, and the RTX 5050 is listed at 105W TGP with 8GB GDDR7. Battery drains quickly while gaming unplugged, but it charges quickly when plugged in.
No. The 16GB LPDDR5X-8000MT/s memory is soldered, so it cannot be upgraded later. That makes the initial RAM choice important if you expect heavier multitasking or want the laptop to last several years.
Yes. The spec page says both USB-C ports support USB-PD, so they can be used for charging. That makes it easier to charge from either side with a compatible USB-C charger.

UPDATE: Correction to my earlier comment: I dug into the Lenovo PSREF and this model actually lists the RTX 5050 at 105W TGP with 8GB GDDR7, which is much higher than the 35–65W configs people expect from thin laptops. So it's not the heavily power-limited version. Still not a full gaming chassis, but it's closer to a proper mid-tier configuration than I originally thought.

Meanwhile, if you'd like to see actual highlights and experience with the device playing games, here's a decent video: https://youtu.be/zhdvBW6g5JA?si=
I don't like YT videos because I think most of them are glossy and superficial, but Lenovo generally has done a very good job with gaming oriented laptops. I think we can all agree that power constraints are pretty typical, and a desktop is always going to be faster with higher end GPUs than laptops, but for $575 or so after tax, it's hard to complain much, if at all - with a 120 hz OLED screen and the other extra nice to haves.
One thing the video makes clear: there are 2 NVME slots; one 2242 (read: short) slot is used with the 500GB drive; the other 'longer / full sized' slot remaining is wide open and trivial to access; any NVME drive today will just click right in.

If yes, it was on sale for $999.99 during thanksgiving with almost double the spec 32gb ram, 1TB, touch screen and 285H processor.

Also worth pointing out -Slickdeals is full of "gaming laptop" deals where the same GPU name is running at wildly different wattages, and a lot of buyers assume they're getting apples-to-apples performance when they're not. That's why digging into the specs matters.

Regardless 16GB is more than enough (the original complaint) for basic office / consumer use once you unload the bloatware which would bog down even 32GB of ram.
