This IdeaPad Pro 5 stands out as a thin 16 inch OLED laptop with an RTX 5050, strong build quality, and a premium feel for the price. The 2.8K 120Hz screen gets repeated praise, and the GPU plus 8GB of VRAM makes it appealing for light gaming and moderate workloads. Storage is more flexible than expected, with two M.2 slots and support for 2242 and 2280 drives. The main drawback is the soldered 16GB LPDDR5X memory, which limits upgrades and may feel tight for heavier multitasking. Battery life is also modest, and a few reports describe freezing or overheating under light gaming.

  • The 16GB LPDDR5X memory is soldered, which limits future RAM upgrades.

  • The laptop can freeze and require hard shutdowns even during light browsing or non-demanding games.

  • The laptop may overheat easily during gaming, and blue screens can occur when plugging in while warm or waking on battery.

  • Lenovo checkout sales tax can be calculated incorrectly, which may lead to a higher card charge than the order confirmation shows.

Nuke it and load Mint or Bazzite and call it a day!
as much as I hate MS/Win, neither Mint or Baz is ready for primetime. Perhaps sometime in the future maybe, or Steam OS, and they will need to use the PS4/5 coding of the games if that could be possible, not Windoze.

Depends a lot on what type of "office" work you do.
Between Figma, VS Code, Chrome, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint & a few app servers for development I'm currently using ~85 GB / 192 GB.
When app servers have been running for a few days of hot deployments in dev mode, they have a tendency to leak memory and I wind up needing to restart because I'm running out of memory (why I originally upgraded from 64 GB).
I have have Unity up and running too that eats up even more.
LOL, you know exactly what someone means when they say "office." (Probably Microsoft.....Office and related programs) But yes, if you are running those types of apps, DNA folding, 4K encoding, etc maybe an entry level laptop might not be a good fit for such office type activities.

P.S. Back in the day wore level III/IV body armor when in the "office"....so should I also factor that in when choosing an IdeaPad Wink

Original price is 750, so with 51% off, shouldn't that be half of 750?

There was a frontpage deal on a similar spec laptop with no OLED from Lenovo for $599. Has another free RAM slot and another M.2 slot.
There is also the Acer (was $604.49 but is now $613.79 so not as good of a deal), but the Acer does have 2 DDR5 ram slots (1 slot free), 2 m.2 slots, a Ryzen 240, 16" (non oled) screen, and a 5050. Although it does have a power drain issue in performance mode. It's also available. I think most folks should go for the OLED screen though for $140 more...

LOL, what are you people doing where you can't even do basic tasks with 16GB of ram? How many dozens upon dozens of tabs do you have open in Chrome.....all playing videos at the same time? Seriously, 16GB of ram is fine for 90% of office / school type users if don't let your PC get bogged down with bloatware*, 'extensions*,' and / or malicious software*.
*what I think most of the problem is. People either blame the laptop for their misuse or over compensate the specs not realizing they are just countering the overhead of their own, again, misuse.
Running Win 11 and browsing web and youtube.
Laptops with 16GB Ram (maxed) in 2026 should be illegal

LOL, Windows 11 has been out (and relatively unchanged) since mid 2021....sounds like user error.

Lets not even discuss how likely 90% of business class laptops and desktops going to admin/ sales / etc type employee ship with 16GB of ram and worse still, 'mobile' CPU's running Wins 11 based systems. Amazing how they can all survive but you can't youtube?

Odd, it wouldn't take it so I removed the two default coupons.
But it still no go.
Cleared cache, relogged in and then it works.

For those who bought this earlier at $800, you may be able to contact Sales and just have it credited. It says they dont include promo coupons but I got it to work for me.
Using the laptop currently and I find the build quality to be very nice along with the 2.8k OLED screen.

Memory: 16 GB LPDDR5X-8000MT/s (Soldered) - This kind of kills the laptop since you can't upgrade it later. Unfortunate.
by the time its rational to, it will be too obsolete to bother.

There are many folks that buy a laptop for "college". In those cases it is extremely desirable that the laptop survive the 4 years of schooling. Upgradable memory makes this more likely because if memory starts becoming a limitation you can upgrade. Also because if the memory goes bad, you can simply replace the bad module.

If a memory chip were to go bad during schooling the laptop would be a loss (very limited number of folks would be able to diagnose this). If memory becomes difficult there would be no way to resolve this (like they ended up using a 3d modelling tool, those are memory hogs).

Bought this and the only thing I'm irritated with is the 60w battery.
Yea but that one was a 5.29lbs hunk and this one is 3.7lbs. 40% lighter. Ultra portability has a huge premium especially with a dedicated graphic card.
