This IdeaPad Pro 5 stands out as a thin 16 inch OLED laptop with an RTX 5050, strong build quality, and a premium feel for the price. The 2.8K 120Hz screen gets repeated praise, and the GPU plus 8GB of VRAM makes it appealing for light gaming and moderate workloads. Storage is more flexible than expected, with two M.2 slots and support for 2242 and 2280 drives. The main drawback is the soldered 16GB LPDDR5X memory, which limits upgrades and may feel tight for heavier multitasking. Battery life is also modest, and a few reports describe freezing or overheating under light gaming.

  • The 16GB LPDDR5X memory is soldered, which limits future RAM upgrades.

  • The laptop can freeze and require hard shutdowns even during light browsing or non-demanding games.

  • The laptop may overheat easily during gaming, and blue screens can occur when plugging in while warm or waking on battery.

  • Lenovo checkout sales tax can be calculated incorrectly, which may lead to a higher card charge than the order confirmation shows.

This is NOT a gaming chasis, which means there isn't adequate cooling for a full watt 5050 GPU. This is 35-65w max and full gaming chasis laptops are 90-140w GPU meaning you will lose 20-40% of performance over legit full TGP GPU. This is a GOOD deal, but not a great deal or anything.

UPDATE: Correction to my earlier comment: I dug into the Lenovo PSREF and this model actually lists the RTX 5050 at 105W TGP with 8GB GDDR7, which is much higher than the 35–65W configs people expect from thin laptops. So it's not the heavily power-limited version. Still not a full gaming chassis, but it's closer to a proper mid-tier configuration than I originally thought.

https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/...0_Spec.pdf
So you initially commented (with such authority!) without reading the spec sheet even, and now you're back having read the spec sheet with new opinions, but no actual experience with the device? Hm….

Meanwhile, if you'd like to see actual highlights and experience with the device playing games, here's a decent video: https://youtu.be/zhdvBW6g5JA?si=tu_d5HbwKtBL-mtN playing a modern, 'hot' game at multiple resolutions and showing fps one would expect.

I don't like YT videos because I think most of them are glossy and superficial, but Lenovo generally has done a very good job with gaming oriented laptops. I think we can all agree that power constraints are pretty typical, and a desktop is always going to be faster with higher end GPUs than laptops, but for $575 or so after tax, it's hard to complain much, if at all - with a 120 hz OLED screen and the other extra nice to haves.

One thing the video makes clear: there are 2 NVME slots; one 2242 (read: short) slot is used with the 500GB drive; the other 'longer / full sized' slot remaining is wide open and trivial to access; any NVME drive today will just click right in.

Yeah, I could have just edited or deleted the original comment and no one would have noticed, but I figured posting the updated info after checking the PSREF was more useful for the thread. Turns out admitting you were wrong and updating with better data is allowed on the internet.
Also worth pointing out -Slickdeals is full of "gaming laptop" deals where the same GPU name is running at wildly different wattages, and a lot of buyers assume they're getting apples-to-apples performance when they're not. That's why digging into the specs matters.

It's incredible how ignorant a lot of you are in terms of how ram works and what you need for your needs. Do yourself a favor, especially when memory prices are completely f'd, and actually do a little real research on how memory works and what YOU as a user needs. Ignore the influencers, slickdeals/forums/Reddit posters, and actually read some real academic articles (with real world performance examples not lab benchmarks). Ultimately save your money if you can.

LOL, what are you people doing where you can't even do basic tasks with 16GB of ram? How many dozens upon dozens of tabs do you have open in Chrome.....all playing videos at the same time? Seriously, 16GB of ram is fine for 90% of office / school type users if don't let your PC get bogged down with bloatware*, 'extensions*,' and / or malicious software*.
*what I think most of the problem is. People either blame the laptop for their misuse or over compensate the specs not realizing they are just countering the overhead of their own, again, misuse.

I don't disagree either. But it is, what it is, so not really worth ranting about unless you want to switch to Linux or downgrade Windows. Might as well complain water is wet.

Regardless 16GB is more than enough (the original complaint) for basic office / consumer use once you unload the bloatware which would bog down even 32GB of ram.

true, I use win 10 and steamOS on my devices. My 2013 machine with win 10 handles all tasks fine with 16gigs of ddr3.
