So I ended up checking around for offers because I finally decided to efile today.

All State, if you are with them for car insurance, they have an email that went out on March 31st for 20% off.

This is what I would have paid without discounts, $294.65 including taxes and that $69 charge for efiling state.

With that 20% off, it only applied to the Expert Assist Premium, so it brought the Expert Assist Premium part down to $167.20 from $209.

On top of that, I used my Chase Freedom card offers for 30% cash back. So I am getting $20 back.

With the $69 state charge and taxes, I end up paying like $230.37

But I just discovered that I had a small window of time on March 31st that, had I filed then, TurboTax would also not have raised the price by $41. The email that stated this came in at 12:20 p.m. on March 31st. The price at that time was $168. The email with All state came in at 12:02 p.m. So if 20% off was applied then, the price would have been discounted to $134.40 and then $69.00 added for state filing (It is always $69, regardless of when you file on or after March 31st). With taxes, it would have come out to $215.58.

Then, I would have been able to take off another 30% off and receive that as cashback ($20). All in all, I would have paid $215.58-20 = $195.58.
My TT total for Federal and two states is coming out to $253.10. FreeTaxUSA is charging my about $65. However, there is a $800 discrepancy between TT (higher) than FTUSA (lower). Much as I would like to support FTUSA, I cannot justify it because of the big difference.

Does TT jack up their prices as we get closer to the tax filing deadline?

Youre saying youre tax return refund is higher with TurboTax over FTUSA? If that is true you got to be doing something wrong. That should not be the case. The numbers should always be the same unless you're missing some forms and data input for one or the other.

Pro tip: Never use TurboTax or H&R block.

Something people don't know, they charge you fees out of your state return that they do not disclose. We tested this years ago. For us it was around an additional $200-250 if I remember correctly. The federal returns would be the same, but they take another $200-250 out of your return for using their software, in additional to the money you already spent buying the software. I don't think people realize this using their software. So once you pay for the turbotax software whatever amount you get it for, they take another $200-250 out of your state return as well. You end up paying the same amount of money as if you just hired a professional to do it for you.... Then you still have to pay additional $25 for state efile too....can you say RIPOFF?

FreeTaxUSA is great. Free federal and $16 for state efile. Credit Karama was the same as FTUSA, and $15 for state efile. , and CashAPP Taxes is actually completely free fed and state. All 3 of those allow for complex tax returns over the other "free" websites that only do simple tax returns.

Yes, which I think is a d move! But hey, they are a private corporation and we have a choice to not use their products to file. We choose to because we believe they are convenient on all the items we have to file. If not, we would either know how to manually file ourselves with good 'ol pen to paper and then envelope it to the IRS in our area or we would have hired a financial individual to file for us.

My Amex and BofA cards both had $20 statement credit offer with minimum $25 spend on TT.

I bought TT download deluxe using Fidelity 25% discount for $52, got $20 statement credit with Amex.
I plan to use state e-file for $25 with BofA custom rewards card and get anyone $20 credit then.
Today is last day to file and I just learned about your comment. Do you know your TT download cover 1099-B like investment loss? Even at a loss, it still requires me to upgrade to Do-it-yourself Premium for like $140.

Yes, download deluxe supports all forms, including 1099-B (profit or loss) as well as my rental real estate income.
