The Mega 2 stands out as a higher output portable power station with useful RV and backup features, including a TT 30R socket, an extra AC outlet, higher input charging, and a 12V 30A Anderson port that can run a diesel heater. Expansion is a major draw too, since it can pair with a B2 for about 4000Wh and add more capacity later. The main concerns are price versus the Mega 1 or other alternatives, plus repeated complaints about customer support, delayed refunds, and warranty handling. A practical pick if those ports and expansion matter more than the extra cost.

I've read where Aliens have secret bases on the dark side of the moon on the Internet. Maybe they will take the Oupes rejects.
Far more likely, they are taking all the best ones for themselves and leaving the rest for us.

I don't disagree, but one advantage the Mega 2 has is a TT-30R (120V) socket, which is pretty much required for RV hookups and the bare minimum (with some caveats) for an interlock with home electrical panel.

I'm also fairly certain you can't connect a Mega 1 to another Mega 1 via expansion port, only add B2/B5 batteries (or do the hack and save yourself a fair bit of money). So if you want more than 1024Wh and aren't willing to do the hack, it doesn't make sense to buy two Mega 1s over a Mega 2.

I still agree with the thought process, though. Personally, if you don't specifically need the TT-30R for an RV, the real value here is to buy a Mega 1 and do the hack. If a person wants to do an interlock for true home backup, it makes more sense to me to upgrade to the Guardian series which does 240V.
No you can't connect two mega 1's together, unfortunately. I wish you could as that would give me more flexibility to use them in different spots, or combine them when I need more/longer power for my sump during an outage + storm.

Last month I got the OUPES Exodus 2400 Portable Power Station which provides 2400W and 2232Wh for about $427. This seems a lot more expensive for very similar capacity. What am I missing?

This is a good price, but if you're in the market and willing to pay a little more; the Pecron F3000LFP is better bang for buck IMO. I recommend it in a lot of threads bc it's really hard to beat. You don't see it on Slickdeals a lot because it's usually regular price which is already low.

mostly the ability to add capacity, i've got a b2 coupled to my mega 2 which makes it a 4000wh. can add 3 more if i need to

Another user noted the ability to expand it (both officially and using the hack where you can use a variety of non-OUPES batteries), but there's also the Anderson port. If you don't need either of those, it's not really worth paying extra...but most folks would really like the ability to expand the capacity without buying a separate unit.

FWIW, I'm not sure the Mega 2 is worth the extra over the Mega 1, putting the $300+ difference toward a server rack battery for expansion. I think the Mega 1 is the sweet spot, and from there it's worth upgrading to the Guardian series (or anything with 240V) if you want to have a proper home backup solution.
