Bob's Red Mill steel cut oats stand out for hearty texture, nutty flavor, and how well they work for overnight oats. They cook into a filling breakfast, and the leftovers keep for about a week, making them easy to batch prep. The main drawback is time, since stovetop cooking takes about 20 to 25 minutes. Price comparisons also point to cheaper bulk options elsewhere, so this fits best if you want the Bob's package and convenience.
Common Questions (4)
Yes, they're described as very filling, especially when paired with add-ins like peanut butter, blueberries, cranberries, or walnuts. That makes them a practical breakfast if you want something hearty that holds you over.
Bob's Red Mill says it worked with suppliers to end glyphosate use as a pre-harvest desiccant for all varieties of its oats, so the non-organic oats are presented as safe too. The Organic version is the one explicitly described as clean, and certified glyphosate-free certification is still a separate standard.
They take about 20 minutes to cook on the stove, so they need a little planning in the morning. They also work well as overnight oats, then can be microwaved for about 3 minutes the next day.
Yes. A simple method is to soak 1 cup oats in 3 cups hot water overnight, then refrigerate the leftovers for about a week and microwave a bowl for around 3 minutes. They're also described as having a nutty flavor and good texture.

If anyone is interested in getting into oatmeal, I use this to cook it: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CGF82N13. It has a dedicated steel cut oats setting and also is great at cooking quinoa easily (the costco quinoa bag is a killer value and comes pre-washed). The cooker regularly goes on sale, can get it for $35-$40 if you don't need it right away. Works fantastic but does take 25 min.
